Back from a curve in the road....

Well this was a first, the guy I bought it from claimed it ran. He lost the key...... I can"t get it to fire up and run. When I pulled the fuel pump I see that it does not have the lever on it.  Did they all come with a lever? Could it have a pulse pump? Does anyone know of where I could get one, I can't find the lever anywhere. Willing to buy one if anyone has one for sale. Really want to keep it as original as I can. Thanks

It is a pulse pump.

No lever no worries.

Yer good.

@buckrancher sells a replacement diaphragm for them.

Saw your classified ... You should be able to rebuild that one.

Great to see you back !!!!

Those pulse pumps need a good diaphragm to operate properly. If the material is stiff then it won't work well or at all.

I knew ya all would come thru for me. All the pumps I see online are mechanical an the manual says they came that way. The material inside is as stiff as a board. That would be my fault as I drained it dry before storing it. Well great, I saw the rebuild kits online so I will get one heading this way.

Rod, I'm no scientist but I would lean towards that not being your fault...

Age alone is of course a factor and then when you add the possibility of ethanol into the equation it changes the flexibility and feel of that rubber and makes it resemble cardboard.

I've seen a few of those rubber membranes that were still surrounded with gasoline and stiff as a board..

Welcome back Rod & hopefully that road gets paved soon.

Just had a 702 with a pulse pump go bad and yes new diaphragm fixed it right up. Nice to see you got the steering wheel off without a struggle! :handgestures-thumbupright:

Knocked the pin out gave it a couple of twists and she popped right off. Can't wait to get to the hitch pin.....last one I had to remove from a Commando 8 gave me a fight. I ended up cutting it into 3 pieces and using a torch. Had to machine up a new one, made it out of stainless so no more worries about rust.

Ok, you know where I’m going ...  We’d love to see a pic of that hitch you tabbed up!!  Sounds slick!

When I get a minute I'll take it out. Not much to see...lol shiny metal pin. It was the 2nd one that fought me hard and I swore I was gonna come up with a way to avoid that in the future. When that rust has 30+ years to weld itself together it doesn't want to let go. I had a set of hub's on that same rig that were stuck on so tight I had to split them with a cut off wheel to remove them. Just gives the level of satisfaction a huge bump when the tractor is finished. All the effort is so worth it. Man the stress I get rid of swinging that BFH on a rusted hub........priceless!!

Make sure the rebuild kit is the pulse pump type, not the lever type.

I drilled and tapped a zerk in the tranny casting to help keep some grease on that pin. Looks like you are real handy with a lathe Rod! :handgestures-thumbupright:

Welcome home, Rod!  Say, that choke bob looks pretty beat up.  I’ll give ya a handful of scribed lines and a metric crescent wrench for that 854 so you don’t have to worry about fixing it up...  I’d even be willing to toss in some high fives too!

Easy their Kev... You're giving away too much.

Those metric crescent wrenches are pretty near priceless just by themselves.

Hey guys a little update and a favor? Here is what I was able to get done last night. The seat was/is in rough shape with some cracks and welding done to it. But we'll get it taken care of. Now I did notice that my lever for the parking brake is gone. Any chance I can get some dimensions from someone for one? So I can fab one up, and do you guys know where I might find the knob for it. Thanks ....Never mind on the knob, found it in the vendor section thx.
