you might add this to your car rust defense, https://nhoilundercoating.com/category/news/, their oil spray is very good and lasting. another thing is to regularly hose down the underside of your car / truck , and wash away the chemical cocktail that is destroying your rig. pete

my son lives above burlington vt, so he deals with long snowy winters , he uses a combination of spray down oils on his fleet ,and has no rust issues ,  flushing it down whenever possible.  pete

Buy yourself an old wax melter from a hobby candle shop. Even an old pressure cooker with the top removed will do.

A cocktail of Linseed oil, paraffin wax, and half a quart of rustoleum gloss black. Heat until it all melts, mix thoroughly. Apply it with an air sprayer. Drys glossy and semi hard as it chills and sets. An old family recipe.

Winters here in Maine aren't nice to anything. The only car in the family with rust issues was the one that didn't get sprayed..

I do it once or twice a year.

My '85 F150 is a legendary rotbox of a machine.. not a spot on it in 3 years of winter now.

Doesn't smell bad like some products on the market. Doesn't leave an oil trail on rainy days like waste oil will.

Best of all, your truck smells almost like a luxury furniture shop..

My Dad had a concoction of ! !/2 gallon of diesel fuel, 1 quart of oil and 1 quart of raw linseed oil. mix well in a 2 gallon sprayer and go to town spraying. If you get any overspray on paint, get it removed right now!!!

It cures and hardens very quick. He used it on his trucks and farm equipment, stops rust now. Only drawback is whatever you spray it on smells like linseed for about a couple of weeks, lol

Prepare for a Petticoat Junction recipe..

The heater 'tub' I have holds 5 gallons.

I mix up enough to do many at a time. And just go off the 'scratch and dent in the pot' unit of measurment.

Roughly a gallon of BLO. The wax I get in half lb blocks online.

If you were doing a smaller job. I suppose one of those small tins of paint they sell at the hardware shop, 1/4 gallon of BLO, and a light block of wax would do..

If you cant tell, I have no specific way of doing it .. just the way grampa showed me he did it and I stick to that. Hahaha.

I have been using Krown every year for my truck. It works amazing. I get it sprayed on usually in the spring or summer time. The only issue I have with it is it gets everywhere. I know it isn't a homemade solution but the place I go to seems to do a fantastic job. No rust yet.

I just had my truck rustproofed using Krown, came highly recommended from my mechanic.  Also had them do a Bullet liner in the box.

I have two gallons of Woolwax sitting in the shop waiting for warmer weather.  For now, not like MI has been covered in salt this winter, but I go through the local car wash a few times a week with the new truck.  The unlimited package with rust inhibitors and clear coat wax is the price of just two washes per month.
