Looking at tires

I am looking for the right size deep lug garden tractor tires for my 1965 875 i am restoring. What are y'all using?

Carlisle tru powers in 23 -10.50 12's would be my choice as shown here…

Just depends on what your going to use the machine for? AG tires in the dirt, turfs cutting grass etc. I use turfs and install chains for the tough work. Some guys here have gotten good results using ATV style tread tires to satisfy all conditions. Just for looks.....totally up to you. It is hard to beat AG tires on these small tractors for looks. JMO Of course there is the budget. 

On thing about it there are tons of opinions on tires here!

As stated above there is any number of different ways you can go.

 

When you say deep lug I think of AG tires.

 

I'm not sure what the actual correct size was for your make and model. 6 - 12  is what we put on My Honey's Pony tractor.

  23 - 8.50 x 12 would be the stock size for the rear but 23 - 10.50 x 12 will fit well also. Carlisle or Firestone would be my brand of choice. Here is a source for both sizes. You can let your budget choose the brand that's right for you.

By the way I noticed that your tractor does not have the correct rims on the front. Those deep dish front rims were used on the later model 's. No need to change them if you like them, just thought I'd give you the heads up in case you were looking to completely original..

Those OTR Lawn Trac R1 IMHO are the best balance between traction in ALL conditions and budget... And they don't tear up the sod any worse than turf tires slipping and spinning out...Along with fluid filled and iron weights I have yet to need chains for any season with the OTRs.

@WVHillbilly520H  I have never ran anything but Turf tires but those R1's are some nice lookin rears on that 520. Could I use those tires and my wheel weights on my 520-H  and not have to use chains when running my 44'' 2 Stage without any traction issues here in Maine, I have a long Gravel driveway. I would like not to have to deal with tire chains if possible.

Jim with enough weight you'd be fine except on icy spots and maybe on the hill near the road.

@JCM... When I first bought my first 520H the Dicos would not hold air so the dealer had new Carlisle turfs on it that I ran for many years with just fluid weight and chains then I got the older AGs (also fluid filled and 70# iron wheel weights then the weight bar and 3 suitcase) seen in my last pic above but still had to run chains even on pavement then changed over to these and yet to need chains with the deuce or plow and the front ones really seem to help with the steering as well.

The fronts are just like what's on Trina's Pony. I'm pretty sure those are Carlisle try ribs that she got on Walmart.com.

 

Those are ears look like Carlisle's in the 8.5 wide.

@PeacemakerJack would have to chime in for sure. He's been busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger with an itchy back lately.

 

 

 

If you search around a little bit you can find those online with free freight and still at a very reasonable price.

I thought the fronts are firestones EB??? They look like they have the higher center rib but maybe the Carlisle do too?? Got a pic of them EB?? Jack would know but yes busy. 

The Firestones are a real man's tire ….very beefy and command a price to match. Better suited for larger C series but look good on anything.

I'd have to double-check her tires to be honest but I'm fairly sure they are in Carlisle. I don't have a great picture of the front of the tractor handy but they are what's on the front in the picture earlier in this thread that shows her on the tractor.

 

Seems to me they were only about $30 or $35 each, shipped.

Just got a text from @PeacemakerJack he says they are indeed Firestones 16x16.50- 8 

He did a big thread on that tractor if you a 875 fan. Tire sizes are all listed there.
