Need to be skooled

The starter on a GT-14 is the same starter that Kohler used on almost everything (excluding the low mount). Glad that you got it fixed and the breakerless system works!

Any pics now that its home?

I would love to post some pics but I think I filled my quota as a general member.

Well the ole GT needs a heart transplant. I took the head off to hopefully free up a stuck exhaust valve. Nope it was free and so was the piston sitting at TDC. I don't think I will be rebuilding this one. Looks like it would also need to be sleeved. Standing on the flywheel side looking down into the cylinder there is a gap between the piston and cylinder that must be almost an 1/8 of an inch and a 1/3 the way around.

I suppose that would explain SOME of the loss of compression

You get poking around up near you and see what you can find for an engine.

If you don't have any luck I've got a 12 horse that turns which I've never heard run. It's the trigger ignition style like that one. I don't have a coil but you already have spark.

I also have the parts to change it to a point type ignition if you so desired.

Also, a "parts"  12 that is black. Later in production. Don't know if it's any good.

I know it's a wicked long drive but they're here if you're interested.

Most certainly. I guess that's another reason why the PO couldn't get it started

@peter lena how far are you from Dansbury? My GT came from down that way. There is an old sticker on the engine that is from Lathrop's Sharpening Service Dansbury, Conn phone 743-2347

I think I'm going to start a build thread for this one.

Always a good idea for future documentation sake
