Yep. Also the evapo-rust mix I mentioned before, it's better for things that are frozen up or rusty.

Thanks I think I am getting one today

When I go to get the GT do I have to disengage the trans for it to roll? If so how would that be done?

If it works like the auto i have, lift the seat, and youll see a little bar. Mabey the sticker is there. Its called the tow valve...turn it 180 degrees, and the wheels will turn freely. As you look towards the back of the tractor, itll be above and to the right of the filler neck where you add fluid for the tranny...

Ill see if i have a pic, otherwise others will be along to explain it better.

Good luck; youll be getting my 'dream' tractor, lol...

Edit to add...founda pic; hopefully it helps. You can see it there, next to the gear...

I know the transaxle in my GT is from a C-160, but if the original GT trans is like the C series, it won't be on top of the pump like above.

Look at post #6 on this link

Well the GT is home safe and sound. It came off the trailer kicking and screaming. 3 flats and the one with air was a front and that wheel bear was seized. Boy that thing is soggy

No worries bro.

You'll have that little gem in tiptop shape.

The engine was seized when it came home. Sprayed it when it hit the floor. Already turning by hand. Tomorrow after work I'm going to pull and clean the starter. Put some oil in the cyl and try and whirl it over a bit

Just remember... if something is rusty or stuck, it didn’t happen in minutes, even though that’s our typical patience level when we’re taking things apart :handgestures-thumbupright:

As it stands at the moment the starter seems to be stripped and no compression. Weather that is a stuck exhaust valve or the rings are stuck . Not sure yet. Seeings the carb is missing I can feel the intake valve move I can kinda rule that out. Any positive input on the starter situation?

How do you mean by starter is stripped? Gear is bad?

The outside of the gear is fine but it seems to be stripped inside the gear. It makes contact with the flywheel then the gear stops spinning but the shaft keeps turning

well I'm not like a small engine Master mechanic or anything but I've been around them for 40 plus years. That's a new one to me.

I've seen them more times than I care to admit stripped on the outside. Never the inside.

Easy enough to replace I believe.

While you're in there disassembling the starter nose cone make sure to clean it all up. Check the spring. Put DRY lube back in there. Not anyting oil-based.

Check the spring

Well there is my next issue no spring. Would you have a pic of one of these starters. I think I am missing a couple of things on the outer end of the shaft. The spring for sure. Maybe an end cap?

I've never seen a gt14 up close so I don't know if they're set up any differently. I can't imagine they are.

On other Kohler engines...

There is no end cap because it is part of the sheet metal. The fan shroud.

I just had one of those apart a few weeks ago. If I remember right there should be the nut that comes off end of the shaft, a washer, the spacer that actually holds the spring in place, spring, then the gear itself.

I'd be more than happy to help out with the picture but I won't be able to get to it for a couple days. Stupid work is interfering with my fun time schedule.

Perhaps someone else could help sooner.

well that would sure as heck explain the lack of correct operation now wouldn't it

Somebody around here probably has that stuff.

I can check but I don't think I have any extra starters.

Sure would.      I may have or can make most of what is missing. Bushing size would be the only factor missing.

the only thing I can tell you off the top of my head is that the spring has smaller coil size on the bushing end and the bushing is smaller than the starter gear. Really can't remember how much though.

@ebinmaine you gave me just enough info to figure it out. All fixed. Works GREAT. Next, off onto the lack of fire.

The ole breakerless is sparking away like a champ. If I can get some compression and a carb on it I think I would be in buisness
