Tiller Fluid

Recommended Posts

I aquired a tiller, thinking it is 77-36TL01.  I had to modify how it hooked up to the tractor; hacked it all apart, fit it together and welded it all back.  Everything is working now and I used it a little the other day to test everything.

The gear case has a lot of buildup on it and there is signs of bas seals around the drive pyulley shaft.

I want to take it apart and replace all my seals.

What fluid should be used in the gear case on these old tillers?

i would try to run this , either with a seperate motor , pulley belt set up or on the horse just to stir up the oil for flushing . valvoline has a good 67-140 synthetic  for that .  a diesel fuel or kerosene flush , i use atf fluid , is a good crud cutter ,and flushing out the moisture and just running in a cleaning lube is easily worth doing. good opportunity for a thorough ,base line maintenance check , pete

good point peter!  I did purchase a grease and oil cleaner becuase I am sandblasting and painting the tiller after I get everything back together and running well.  I will give it a flush before i tear it down.  I can gaurantee it has moisture inside becuase I had to put the torpedo heater on it in the middle of the winter, to be able to rotate the gears when I was fitting everything onto the tractor.
