We're going for some extra sun and giving the local animals a little more room to get to the watering hole. Moose are quite rare around here but we have a quantity of deer akin to a petting zoo. Also freeing up between the trees to attract birds that appreciate that type terrain. (Cardinals, for instance) We've talked about putting several raised garden beds out in the middle of the clearing where they'll get decent sun. The soil is fantastic there.

We're moving to become more self sustaining over the coming years.
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #7 Posted February 24, 2020 I have some issues with some very large trees myself next to the house here. I have a very large poplar which is at least 100 feet tall. It's about 30 inches at the base and when ever the wind blows it moves,... woa ! It moves ! I am wanting to take it down soon and it will go to the sawmill for lumber. It's about 30 feet from the house:
Darb1964 1,042 #8 Posted February 24, 2020 Lots of fun and work, satisfying to get substance off the land. Makes me respect past generations that depended on the land to survive.
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #9 Posted February 24, 2020 About five years ago I cut down several poplar's in the same area and ended up with 15 to 20 logs 9 foot long. Ended up with 1100 board feet after dried I trimmed out the house with it

The rest will be in piles for the wildlife.

It happens several times a year already with various friends... Super A...... Hhhmmmmm.... I wouldn't be opposed to the idea.... 1

On the muffler... Awesome! What did you end up ordering?

That's what happened to me in away. When I bought this place, there was a very big field Elm. And that's where It should have been, not planted next to the septic tank. One of it's roots grew over the pipe from house to tank, pushing the pipe down causing blockages. Tree long gone now and the pipe renewed.

WHNJ701 4,165 #23 Posted February 25, 2020 my tree dude came by this morning, took 8 poplars all about 125 tall, 2 foot dia, cut and chipped in 4 hours, he has 7 guys on his crew, raked up all little stuff too.
AHS 1,439 #24 Posted February 26, 2020 @ebinmaine the tree would have been cut down sooner if I didn’t have my sick addiction of buying wheelhorse parts!! $50 for a 42” deck (in pieces), a set of 4 link v bar chains, wheel weights, a mule drive and a partridge in a pear tree. I could not pass it up!😁
Stormin 9,981 #25 Posted February 26, 2020 (edited) $50! That's like £38 over here and you've no chance of getting all that for that price. Edited February 26, 2020 by Stormin
