Auto Restorer Magazine gone

Recommended Posts

Been a long time subscriber to Auto Restorer Magazine.  Interesting articles and while I don't work on old cars many of their mechanical articles were applicable to tractors  and other stuff..  Got a letter yesterday they are bankrupt and shut down.  Indicated you could file for a refund of your subscription but didn't sound like you would collect.  Will miss it.

That's not one I've had the pleasure of reading over the years.

There is just something very different about the tactile experience of turning your own pages of a book or magazine versus a website.

Used to like the "in the hand paper", but now since I read online, for me its the only way to go. I know many use smart phones and tablets but I have a big monitor and the paper is pretty nice to read. I have a neighbor that lives about a 1/4 mile back up the lane and I see him in the mornings head to the box. Mean while I'm drinking hot coffee in my night cloths in a warm house and reading the paper. Just to nice!

I have a brother that is pretty old school, he still listens to am radio! I didn't know that is still around till I got in his truck and some kind of talk radio was on.

Before long most tangible items will be only bought on line, the way we are headed. I suppose.

Had to buy a new washer and dryer this week. Started out at the big box stores, (in one of those stores the employees seemed like they couldn't stop using their phones to talk to us), ended up at a locally owned place. Paid just a couple dollars more, but they had a real service guy and were adamant about the sale being smooth and trouble free.

Those kind of places are tough to see going away.

I still walk down to the mailbox to get my paper.  Can read it on line and have had to a couple stormy days but it much easier for me to read the hard copy,.  newspaper has changed their software a couple times, scrolling, enlarging to read and moving between pages can be a real PIA...  Besides my recliner is more comfy:P  and the cat prefers it:P

This will only happen more and more.

Being originally from the Hit and Miss engine side of things, I've seen a steady decline in both stories and articles in those magazines. One recently reached out to me 11 years after doing a section with me in it, as a young kid.
I cant help but wonder if there's more to the request than just time itself..

Online forums are dying slow but sure in my eyes, and save for a few stragglers, most of us engine guys agree paper was dead 15 years ago.

Its a real shame. I always enjoyed kicking back and breaking out the month's latest edition. Then it became bi-monthly, and now even less frequent.

I can see the logic in what @Stepney states....

During my research of general stuff online I see all kinds of pages from several years ago... Not so much from currently updated sites.

I'm thinking/hoping that Redsquare stays viable for a bit...

this is probably the last garden tractor site with the most active members.  I haven't subscribed to magazines in years, I used to get a lot of vintage airplane magazines for model building but the Internet ruined that by making it easy to research.  I have a huge amount of "paper" research I haven't used in years but I can't bring myself to unload it yet.

For years I subscribed to several Street Rod Magazines, one by one they have folded. My collection of them includes every copy printed of a half dozen titles. When I'm feeling down I just pull down a box of magazines and peruse my past, makes my day.

This site will last as long as all of us support it.  What is the problem now is our kids are not even learning how to write. Just learning  how to use computers for all of their knowledge most don't even know what a dictionary is.  God help us all.
