JaysHorse 287 #1 Posted February 20, 2020 So I have a question. I have several tractors from a c145, 416-8, 518h, 312-8, 417-8, and a 417A. All have the 8” rims on front except the 312-8. That has the 6”. My question is y? Is there a difference in the arch of the axle or the spindle height? Is it ok to put the bigger wheels on the front of the 312? Ed Kennell 38,021 #2 Posted February 20, 2020 The 312-8 has longer spindles to compensate for the smaller wheels. You can put the 8inchers on, but the tractor will not be level. I have put the 8" wheels on my 312 to gain more clearance under the axle so I can raise the plow higher.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,032 #3 Posted February 20, 2020 The 37" 2-blade side discharge deck has the left blade spindle farther ahead than the right. The 6" wheels provided clearance between the deck and the wheel on the left side. The 6" wheels with long king pins are the same height as the 8" wheels with short king pins. JaysHorse 287 #4 Posted February 20, 2020 So if I put the 8” wheels on and use spindles from tractor that had those then all should be good. Thanks guys
tom2p 2,394 #5 Posted February 20, 2020 (edited) you can install the 8" wheels and not replace the spindles the difference is minor - 8" wheel/tire approx 1" diameter difference that results in 1/2" height difference that can easily be compensated with a mower deck adjustment I installed 8" fronts on my 312-8 without changing spindles ( I had shorter height spindles - but never used them ) my 312-8 with 8" fronts Edited February 20, 2020 by tom2p
tom2p 2,394 #6 Posted February 20, 2020 ( more ) and with a RD deck - the clippings are better dispersed with the front of the deck a tad higher ; much less clumping
