As much as I am a Dodge guy, I would've had to stay with the 3/4 ton Chevy from a capability standpoint, assuming it wasn't extremely rusty. That said, it looks like a pretty good truck aside from the rust! Is it a 318 or a 360? Guessing probably a 360. Going to fix the rust or leave it? I've never seen a truck with rusty rockers that wasn't 50 years old and sitting in the dirt forever! I've owned two of the "2nd gen" Dodge trucks and they have been absolutely excellent. The silver one pictured is a 99 2500 8.0 V10, 4x4. I bought it with 200k miles with a fresh transmission and an engine that had 0 compression on the #9 cylinder. Pulled the valve cover and couldn't see the rockers for the oil grime buildup. Put another engine in it and it was a very good truck. Traded it for the Porsche on the trailer behind the blue truck in June. I bought the blue truck January of last year after I found it accidentally on FB marketplace. My grandfather bought it in 97, and then sold it around 2003 when he bought his Chevy (and has regretted it since). It's a 95, and also a V10 truck. Sitting around 230k. This is a truck that I don't ever see myself getting rid of. It's been excellent to me since I've had it and it has sentimental value. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

It was a regular cab short box 4x4 with the 318 and dual 2-1/4 “ exhaust and no mufflers. Oh did it sound great with that Dodge cackle! Last summer at the races, Rylee heard the rumble of a 318 leaving the races one night. bc.gold 3,403 #28 Posted February 21, 2020 In addition to the transmission overhaul the HD Chevy needed approximately another $1500.00 in parts, it does have new tires with studded winter grips mounted on spare rims. Fortunately these Chevy tires maybe swapped onto the Dodge rims when needed. just before the transmission in the Chevy packed it in the distributor drive gear was worn so badly the distributor had to be replaced, the wear on the distributor gear will be equal on the cam gear. In my opinion the repair was only a Bandaid. As for the Dodge Ram it's probably the best $1000.00 I've spent in the last five years, the transmission has nice firm shifts both cold and when warmed up after a long drive, the ATF fluid is nice and clear without a burnt smell. One thing on the Dodge transmission. The 46RE transmission that it has is a direct descendant from the 727 Torque Flite transmission, and I know that those don't pump fluid through the trans in park, which could lead to components running without fluid. Not sure if the 46RE is the same, but it might be a good idea to research it or let it idle and warm up in neutral with the parking brake set. Hows the dash? I know interiors fare better up north, but these trucks are notorious for the dash top, aka "potato chip" shattering. Every truck down here has it break. My 99 had a shattered one when I got it. I found a Mexican made fiberglass replacement dash top and it was excellent. On my 95, the dash was also broken (94-97 used one dash style and 98-02 used another) and I purchased the replacement from LMC truck. It also fit very well and looks great. bc.gold 3,403 #31 Posted February 22, 2020 (edited) Dash is pristine, once had a Ford Ranger were the steering wheel turned to goo. Winter before Pat's 06 Ram the transmission pan developed a rust hole. The engineers who designed the pan certainly knew mud and salt would adhere to the pan giving it a short life span.
