Electric fuel pump

Have any of you running electric pumps had problems with them overpowering the float and flooding over? I've seen low pressure pumps that vary in pressure from 2-7 PSI. I can't imagine 2 PSI being too much, but I can see 7 causing an issue. It's recommended that you run a regulator on a car when running a low pressure electric pump.

I have a few cheapo $9.99 specials from eBay in service on other things, one being an 85 Dodge pickup. They're branded as "osias". No issues yet and have been in service for more than a year. I tend to keep a few around just in case I need one for something.

I only had 1 issue when I first put a pump on my C-160. I put in a new needle and seat and it's been fine over 6 years now.

Another option; MrGasket 42S. I have a couple that have been running good. No float issues either. Don't know for sure, but they might be china made. Sometimes on stock at Advance, available on Ebay, Jegs etc. $32 and under if you shop around. I do notice one thing they warn you about, gasoline versions should not be used on diesel. Not sure why.

The fuel is gravity fed to both the pump and carb, as both are below the bottom of the fuel tank,

Many garden tractors and other equipment makers don't use a fuel pump with the tank mounted above the carb. only issue would be going up a hill just like the Model T Fords, had to back up a hill to keek the fuel level above the carb.

Yeah I did --- on one occasion. Mixed in my herd is a MF1655 with an Onan B43 and I guess their reputation for being 'finicky' came up when I added an electric pump - it would immediately start flooding whem the pump came on. At that time all I had on hand was one of the cheap 'round' electrics and having already had problems with that type, I switched over to the Facet style pump ---- and same thing, flooding. After some searching I found an original pulse pump on the bay and when I installed it --- problem solved!

All of my horses have/had Kohlers and none of them has had that problem.

I love my horses but I have to say I DO like that Massey!!

Did that Onan have the fuel pump built into the carburetor?

No, it was mounted on the air tin .... but from what I could gather it seems to be the same just a different mounting.

953,  thank you.  I did not think about the fuel level changing based on the tractor going up hills. Danny

Don't forget Model A's! :)

Here's the last A, a 30 model, that my great grandfather restored around 1978. My grandfather has it now. We brought it home from my great grandmothers house after she passed at 94 in 2015. About 2 years ago we pulled the tank/cowl out and had it cleaned out. Had around 1" of varnish all the way around from sitting after the tank got so bad it wouldn't run, which was around 2001. Still presents well!

ZXT,  That Model A is gorgeous!   My Dad had one when I was about 5-6 years old, and I remember riding in it..  Great memories!   Danny

I have been thinking about installing a Facet 40163 on my 310-8 with swapped in KT17.  Seems to have the ideal specs for all of the various engines on our tractors.  Also, thought about using an impulse pump for a Briggs and making an adapter plate to cover the original fuel pump mounting port.  Cheaper, but you still have the risk of gas in in the crankcase if it fails.  Beautiful car BTW.
