Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #1 Posted February 15, 2020 So Ive been scrolling thru Craigslist daily for WH’s for years now. Everyday there’s a few new ones....but lately it’s dried up and here in Connecticut I see like one or two new listings a week. Sometimes less! Facebook Marketplace seems to be the new “go-to” site to list your stuff for sale. Is anyone else noticing this?
JoeM 7,871 #2 Posted February 15, 2020 I have seen about the same here in SW Pa. Not to much new on CL. I had a discussion with my neighbor. He thinks CL scamming, no call returns, no shows, etc. has really hurt CL adds. I know about 50% of the adds I inquire on CL never reply. I also know if you put a text number on there, the phone blows up with unwanted calls. I only use the CL return email now no phone numbers. The neighbor says there is a lot less BS on FB because it has a direct connection to a users account. I have looked at FB Market place and there is some stuff but I don't look there often enough to gain an opinion.
Goldnboy 910 #3 Posted February 15, 2020 I too have noticed that craigslist is drying up in the Kansas City metro, the smaller surroundings areas are empty. Craigslist has become more of a outlet for used dealers or independent small businesses doing this for a living. I gave tried using Letgo and Offer up sinelce the buyers and sellers on those seemed to be extremely shy about meeting or very lacking in communication. I started using marketplace this summer and seems decent yet there is far to many posts in wrong categories.

I do not have, or want, anything to do with any social media sites other than Redsquare so FB is not on my radar. I'm not at all in the market for any more tractors but I do take a peek every few days for the giggles...

I've looked at Facebook every now and then, but I don't have a FB account to even respond
CCW 1,292 #6 Posted February 15, 2020 Dropped off FB some years ago and have not looked back. Took a look at FBMP once and was amazed at how much junk was listed. It was like a yard sale with racks of baby clothes. Similar to @Sparky I watch CL for items and have been successful with my searches. Yes CL has become a dealer's tool for used cars and trucks as well as other sundry items.
c-series don 8,663 #7 Posted February 15, 2020 I’m with Eric (as usual!) this is the only social media that I’ll do, but you still gotta look cause hey you just never know!! 1
ZXT 2,401 #8 Posted February 15, 2020 A new tractor might pop up on Craigslist once every few months, typically on the other side of the state, 7 hours away. I see them more often on Marketplace, but it also picks up tractors in Oklahoma and there are far more up there than there are here.
Blackhood Bill 721 #9 Posted February 15, 2020 CL in my area has little new, usually same ads week after week. I don’t have FB but the wife does so I usually check out the marketplace and find pretty much the same thing with a few new here and there. CL has become the dealers place or no response from seller. FB also like @Goldnboy stated lots of miss categorized items when you do a search. Agree with @c-series don gotta look cause you just never know.
SPINJIM 1,981 #10 Posted February 15, 2020 I've been listing on CL with mixed results. Have sold some, but not as much as in the past. I looked at FB Market Place, and found it much more difficult to navigate than CL. On FB you get listings from all the the country, instead of just local. And pictures are not as conveniently displayed. So CL has advantages and disadvantages. The scam calls are a nuisance on CL (got a text message from Southern California from someone wanting to buy my snowblower, LOL). I might stop listing my phone number, but that is where I have been getting my sales. And then there's ebay . Good selection of parts if you're willing to pay the high prices as a buyer, or the high fees as a seller.

Ed Kennell 38,021 #12 Posted February 15, 2020 I bought and sold a lot on CL in the past, but about a year ago I discovered FBMP and I have gotten much better response there. I joined the Wheel Horse Group. So WH ads are normally the only ones that appear.
Cvans 1,009 #13 Posted February 15, 2020 There's getting to be so many different sites for selling your things that it's distracting for the buyers. I've been looking for an older car from the early thirties to use as a recreational driver. There are so many sites available to the owners and buyers of antique autos that it's mind boggling. Getting to be the same with online auctions and markets.

The Tuul Crib 7,336 #16 Posted February 15, 2020 CL in my opinion has gone to the dumps to say it lightly. I never give out personal info such as phone numbers. Too many prowlers and scammers out there. The site needs to do more management to fix this. Im with the majority on the facebook mp thing. Course l would much rather be getting seat time than surfing the net!!
WHNJ701 4,165 #17 Posted February 15, 2020 I was going to start a topic similar to this. talking with alot collectors I know it seems the "wave" of garden tractors has passed. it's a past generation thing, the individuals that bought these tractors in the 50's and 60's new are now no longer with us and there kids want nothing to do with all the stuff, so for the last 15 years there was tons of estate sales, and property clean outs, just to get rid of junk, there is still alot out there to be found but I really think the wave has passed us and now it's more of collectors selling to each other, and also add in the decline of interest. SPINJIM 1,981 #18 Posted February 15, 2020 I'd respectfully disagree with the decline of interest in our hobby. The WH Show is getting bigger every year, and prices are going higher on decent tractors. Maybe it depends on your location, but interest seems great in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Connecticut, New York, etc. The garden tractor shows in general seem to attract many young people. It's encouraging to see younger men take up our hobby as we 'old codgers' are forced to downsize. Jim 3
Stepney 2,325 #19 Posted February 15, 2020 I see fewer and fewer WH's here in New England. I always reference back to a B100 Auto I sold about 5 years ago. Spotless original, low hours, with implements. I struggled to get 500 for it. Now rusted up scrap metal is bringing nearly that. Anything semi decent is insane price. Wish I kept the 20-something I'd owned and waited till now. Be partially rich. I see a decline in hobbyists myself, and a rise of kids who just want to haul them out to the woods and beat them to death. I know a kid semi local who bought a halfway nice restored Commando and wrecked it in short order, just to buy another.. I'm beginning to keep whatever I find. squonk 41,020 #20 Posted February 15, 2020 I still see quite a few ads on CL for Horses. But the problem is the prices are ridiculous. Our hobby has gotten so popular that everyone thinks they are made of gold.Even some in the classified here on RD reflect that.

Herder 2,354 #25 Posted February 16, 2020 FB marketplace seems to be proving difficult. Messaging back and forth has taken away the need to have a conversation with someone. I haven't had any luck closing a deal. The items I was interested in are still for sale!! I will just stick with CL. If you guys feel the need to buy something stop in, plenty of stuff here that I would sell.
