Positive drive axle

Has anyone ever converted a C101 8 speed to a positive axle so both tires grab, or is this even possible to do without changing to a different transmission?

First thing that comes to my mind is... Why do you want to do that?

Couple different ways you could do that while retaining your current transmission.

Change out to the differential unit from one that does have limited slip.

Absolutely NOT RECOMMENDED but you could weld that one.

Your best bet is to add weight.

Get your tires fluid-filled.

Add some steel

I use a c160 for plowing on fairly rough terrain and I have near-zero traction issues with an open style differential.

I can give you a rough idea that those occurred between 1967 and 1970. They were the 10 pinion differential. I don't know what size axles all of them had though.

It is possible to put a 10 pinion Limited slip differential into an Eight speed.  Did it for my 310-8.  You need to have a 2 piece mushroom gear in addition to the differential.

If you trans axle has 1 1/8" axles you could replace the differential with a limited slip ten pinion unit from a Raider, Charger, Electro or the 1967 six speeds and hydros.

Open differentials work fine for snow removal with some added weight and tire chains.
