Ed Kennell 38,021 #1 Posted February 9, 2020 I know all you electrical wizards understand this, but can you explain to me (in hydraulic terms) how a rechargeable toothbrush passes current through a sealed nonconductor charging base. I understand electricity by relating it to hydraulics. Wire = pipe Resistance= pipe friction Voltage=pressure Amperage=flow Switch=valve Impedance= ??? About here is where I get stumped. Oh, and since this waterproof non-conductor charging system works on my toothbrush, Why isn't it used to recharge all devices. Instead of using 15 different connectors that are impossible to insert right side up without your glasses on. BTW, I laid my cell phone on the toothbrush charging base and it did not recharge. Hmm, could you make a charging cabinet that would keep 10 tractor batteries charged w/o connecting wires to the posts? 1 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rmaynard 15,427 #2 Posted February 9, 2020 Ed, do you know how a transformer works? There is a primary coil and a secondary coil. No electrical connection between them, yet 120V in, 12V out. Your toothbrush base contains the primary coil and the toothbrush handle contains the secondary coil. Setting the toothbrush on the base brings the two coils within the close proximity of each other, just like a little step-down transformer. With that being said, the older I get, the more better it is to just know it does and not so much how! Don't want to clutter up with extra molecules of knowledge, I have been know to walk out to the garage and forgot why I went out there! (But I solved that problem, put a fredge out there with beer) No wasted trips, maybe. Hey ED, I doubt if impedance will solve your tractor battery problem, but being in Amish country, the answer may be closer than you think. How about something along the line of the automated milking machines? Vacuum couplers connected to a central charging unit with water cooled confubualtatory selective DC Voltage. Some day we'll talk about how I developed a shaft triggered delay strobe system and Plexiglas portholes in the '60s that permitted documentation of visual cavitation on individually altered turbine blades. Prior to this, the "safe" operating range of a turbine was determine by measuring the HP and Efficiency losses. Wow, I can remember taking one of those super hot showers, getting a cold one out, and watching the steam roll up past the can! I think they have a Coors commercial similar to that now. Ended up having to move it into the house because so many local teens were helping themselves to a beer after school.
