you can see from the damp mark's on the brickwork where we have taken out the clay. 

Not too far off with the levels now, I'm going to do two separate slabs to make it a stepped floor with a ramp. 

Even thinking about mixing my own concrete rather than ready mix to give me a bit more time  but I will see what the price comparison is.

I have done a few concrete jobs around the house at my old place, once I mixed 21 80 lb bags of concrete for a foundation by hand and we started at 9 at night thinking it wouldn’t take too long!  Work was slow going in the morning indeed!  If you choose to mix it yourself, at least rent a mixer!  On the second foundation and replacing a floor in the porch, the couple 20’s it cost for the mixer was well worth it each time!

May I ask why split level with a ramp?

 

Hire a mixer and you self and your beautiful assistant will soon have it done.

I was thinking of splitting the level to make things easier, it slopes down quite a bit and I've never concreted a slope. 

If I did the top section almost level I could slope the bottom section toward the door.

Don't make the slope too steep. Don't forget you'll be pushing things in there.

I'm going to take a step back and have a good look at the space now the area is clear. 

If its necessary to shift some more soil I'd rather do that than wish I had in a few months time.

There is no rush and it might be better to let things dry out a bit more after our record rainfall.

Still plenty I can be doing, electrical sockets, lighting to sort, shelves and brackets etc.

Plus I'm really busy with our toad crossing. Its migration time and I'm out every evening rescuing toads from the busy road outside our home.

Crikey, just looked back over my messages about this. I only really started on 15th Feb. So only a month to get this far. And that's only doing odd days here and there. 

I can definitely afford to take a breath and look at my options. 

Cost wise self mixing is the best option, also I can do things at my own pace instead of having a cement truck driver wanting to drop it and go.

I will keep you all updated.

This is my sweeper driven into the new space. Plenty of room in there so I will be driving Fred in there as soon as possible to see how he fits.

Ready mixed concrete around £200 but a lot cheaper to buy in the materials and do it myself.

Now my arms have toughened up looks like I will be getting the mixer out.

A little over 5 foot yes, not as much as I'd like but it's ok for storage. I can ride in on Fred so it's high enough.

Just a thought... I would cover the bottom of that beam with a bunch of cheap dollar store foam “noodles” to soften the inevitable blows to the noggin... get them for a buck each around here...

but it ain‘t lasted long, few stronger Winds and it passes.

but on my Motocycleport i have a simple solution, i wear my helmet before pic the Bike.

 

but maybe can be glued with Foam.

 

 

Btw, is there a chance to dig maybe about 2 feet deeper before you built the floor?

 

so you had a fair chance to have a small heated Workshop in,

i.eg. For small Maintenance in Winter.

I'm not digging down much further as I might disturb the foundations. 

It's ok for me to work in actually as I sit on a wheeled stool for most jobs service wise.

Hi all.

I've been keeping busy during the lockdown. 

Dug out the floor to the level I want ready to concrete.

I'm building a small wall to split the room into two levels, this deals with the slope and makes less digging out. 

If I can get some materials delivered next week I may be able to crack on a bit. 

Be nice to finish the lower level near the door so I can use it to work from.

ok so I now have my two levels set. Little wall to work from for the bottom deck of concrete. Then I will sort out what I want to do up top.

here's Fred with his little tipper trailer. Room for tools etc or a generator in front of the tipper.

This is Fred, his trailer and the two wheeler Little Ted all snug on the top level.

I fitted a kitchen vent fan this morning too so that condensation wont be such a problem. Just built an air box over the air brick and fitted a six inch fan.
