1.  John Dillinger Robs Central National Bank in Greencastle, Indiana

The back page has a small & discrete report from Greencastle, Ind. that begins with: "Four men executed a daring robbery of the Central National Bank and Trust Company...." 

 

This was the Dillinger's gangs  largest haul of $75,000 !

 

 

2.  V -1 Buzz Bomb located on southwest Corner of the Putnam County Court House in Greencastle, Indiana

 

The V-1 "Buzz Bomb" was the first practical cruise missile in military history. Nazi Germany fired many at Allied population centers in the last year of World War II. One of two brought back to the United States at the end of the war ended up as a war memorial to the veterans of Putnam County, Indiana, dedicated in 1947. Today, it's on display at that outdoor memorial in the town of Greencastle, Indiana. 

 

The bomb came into the Navy's possession during the war and was shipped to a naval base in Virginia. After the war, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1550 in Greencastle, asked the government for the buzz bomb to make a war memorial. That required legislation being passed in both houses of the U.S. Congress.
