12Horse Paladin 1,038 #16 Posted February 6, 2020 May i ask something? Other than a bigger footprint, which id gather equals more traction(yes?)...wouldnt it actually hurt your pulling power, because the engine has to work harder to turn all that extra weight (especially the dual wheel setups)? Im asking cuz i hope to do something like y'all are posting pics of someday, anyways😁🤣

In snow a wider tire can be a detriment for the same reason. I can't answer in a physics science manner as to whether it hurts the pulling power. I've read that having extra weight IN the tire is better than having it mounted TO the tire. It does make sense that the extra rolling resistance would be felt by the engine. HOWEVER... Pulling a heavy load involves traction. More traction IS more pulling power.

Me thinks they are perfect for what I was trying to achieve... it looks mean... I have hardly any air in the outside tires to minimize strain on the axle seals... 2 minutes ago, ebinmaine said: Adds more traction, yes. In mud a wider tire can aid flotation which is good. Once a weight is moving the amount of power needed to keep it moving is minimal and would only go up because of friction. Adding weight to a tractor will hurt its acceleration, but once it's moving it wouldn't take measurably more power to keep it moving unless you increased the rolling resistance. That is mainly going to be a product of what you are rolling on/through and how much the tires compress at the bottom. Is there a difference? Yes. Is it big enough to measure? Possibly. Does it really make a difference? Probably not in most cases.

oilwell1415 563 #23 Posted February 6, 2020 Yes, it's cool. I was talking about using power. Any power they lose is more than made up for by added traction and coolness.
