troutbum70 857 #1 Posted February 5, 2020 Had some time this afternoon and pulled the carb bowl on the Electra 12, actually looked better than I would have thought. Some fine lose particles and gas that looked pretty nasty. Have included a picture of my findings. As well as a picture of the engine and it's mounting on the frame, it's only bolted down on one side or the bolts on the PTO side go through oil pan and on through frame. So asking does this look factory stock?
oliver2-44 9,679 #2 Posted February 5, 2020 The side of the engine that appears to not be bolted down has bolts from the bottom up into the oil pan
ebinmaine 67,266 #3 Posted February 5, 2020 Bowl itself looks good. That carb should clean up nice.

Pollack Pete 2,273 #5 Posted February 5, 2020 You DID drain out any old, stale gas and replace it with fresh non-ethanol gas before your maiden voyage, right?Remnants of the gas in your carb bowl look awful dark.Get rid of the old gas.

Forgive my bad memory. Did you replace the fuel lines already? Pete has a good point there.
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #7 Posted February 5, 2020 I would go as far as take the tank off and clean it out as well . Plus fuel filter. Clean fuel makes a happy horse!
troutbum70 857 #8 Posted February 5, 2020 Did not remove tank looked good, like what I found in carb bowl. New gas, seafoam, and new fuel lines and filter. Yesterday removed jets and bowl and gave carb good spray down with brake clean and then compressed air. Going to remove points today clean and reset. And I could feel a couple bolts under frame and assumed they screwed into oil pan.
oliver2-44 9,679 #9 Posted February 5, 2020 Your on the right track. Sea foam for a couple of tanks is a great idea.
Bill D 1,907 #10 Posted February 12, 2020 (edited) Change the float bowl for a Briggs bowl part# 221995. I have done this on all my carbs. It's a plated steel bowl that is corrosion resistant and cheaper than the Kohler bowl. It fits like a glove. troutbum70 857 #11 Posted February 12, 2020 I think that bowl may have some thing in it as its pretty shinny and clean.
buckrancher 2,679 #12 Posted February 12, 2020 I would change out the float bowl as it's a leak waiting to happen
troutbum70 857 #13 Posted February 12, 2020 I think some one may already changed it as it looks like the one on am old briggs engine on an old pressure washer lying up I'm the weeds. When I cleaned it out I looked it over with magnifying glass looks to be in really good shape, no hair line cracks or dings and nice and shinny inside. I think the only reason this one would leak is if the seal was bad or the drain bolt got over tightened to wharp it.
Bill D 1,907 #14 Posted February 13, 2020 I see some pitting in the bottom of that float bowl, that's why I suggested changing it out for a Briggs bowl. Bill
troutbum70 857 #15 Posted February 13, 2020 That one after I soaked it good with brake kleen and went over it with fine steel wool cleaned nicely and looked good under a magnifying glass. Do you happen to know the briggs part number for the bowl?
Bill D 1,907 #16 Posted February 13, 2020 Part number 221995.
