Short frame or Long frame

Recommended Posts

Mr Magoo

So I see people refer to either short frame or long frames. What models are which?

That can get a little confusing to some.

I'm not sure about the models that were built before 1964.

1964 to 1966 all short frames

1967 if you have an 8 horse it was short, 12-horse it was long.

1968 to 1973 I think followed a similar formula

1974 and 1975. If you're not confused enough. B series was a mid length-frame. Yes you read that right.

C-series was a long frame.

1976 and up as far as I know everything was a long frame......    ??

Others will be along to elaborate on the placees where my knowledge Lacks.

Some more stragglers to consider are the GT14, 1054/953.

I think '66 was the first year for the long frame. My 1076 is one of them.

Pretty sure the end of the short frames was the Commando 800, around 1972?

‘Ts ‘bout as clear as mud as it gets!  Then there were special builds, use up builds, A (and B?) series vertical shafts and some that just don’t fit the bill of the mold...

Kohler standard size the engine dimentions of  10, 12, 14 and  16 HP engines in 1959. Any tractor with 10 through 16 HP will be a long frame unless it's been modified by an owner.

A good percentiage of Redsquare Members are Modifiders.

@ebinmaine nailed it for the majority of the :wh: line.  As is fellow Maineiac  @Stepney pointed out there are a few models that don't conform though

1963 - 603, 633, 653, 753, Lawn Ranger

1964 - 604, 654, 704, 754, 854, 1045, Lawn Ranger

Well my goal was around 65” but I need to build my kick up yet, or raise the frame on the transmission mounting plate, or both, etc.  We will see.  I have cutters and welders and other cutters...

Oh?

I thought that was the only big block short frame built.

Mind you... I'm no authority.

Okay I thought there was one back there somewhere.

So that was a one-year only thing... Correct?
