What’s a 314-8 worth?

good pick up on that, i would do a thorough BASELINE SERVICE  on it, take nothing for granted , and verify all functions. probably a shift boot ,along with a fluid change in the rear end. that deck is not safe to use , you can probably pick up a much better and safer one , from this site or  locally.  get some sea foam in the tank and flush out the crud. do a couple of hot oil changes to flush out the milky residue , a regular, with the wrong weight oil never totally heating up , 5-30 oil in winter ,does well, 30  wt rest of year. good luck with it , its worth saving , pete

Ya, I was thinking about giving it an oil change, a tranny change. I don’t know what the shifter boot looks like.  I ordered the choke cable a gas cap today.... the muffler is $247! Ooh, ouch! Anywhere else I can look? I checked eBay, but they want $100 for a rusted one!

Are you looking to replace the muffler to stock or maybe do a stack... Or...?

You could call A - Z and see what he says...

The shifter boot is almost certainly cracked and garbage.

Don't forget to raise the front of the tractor to get the transmission fluid past the center bolt hump.

AHS, here is a member making mufflers ,  that you might check out, you could also add that to the WANTED  site here . that shifter boot is under the shifter gate plate , about 9 $ on ebay / ammazon. remove the shifter knobs and 4 phillips corner screws , use grease or silicone grease on shift lever or the molded hole on boot , for easy installation. pete

@ebinmaine What’s your weather? Not good up here, 28 degrees and freezing rain! I think I’m gonna have to get out the power king.

This might work, for the price ~$35 it might be worth trying  (Stens 105-296: these are for 12hp Kohler's fitted to Cub cadet). The exhaust will exit towards the back instead of front. Not sure if clearance to the PTO lever would be an issue with the pipe facing backwards.

Or downwards? With the exit facing the frame... I’ll have to get dimensions on it first... that might work. Also @jimkemp made the muffler that I needed in the first picture! I asked him about it.. haven’t heard back yet.

@ebinmaine I brought out the WH with the snow blower, and did up here in the yard where we park. Then I took it down by the road... slush and slush...the WH didn’t mind that too much!!💪

I can measure the one I have on Patriot horse later.

Makes a great stack or downturn. Just have to get the right length inlet pipe so as to clear the PTO or whatever you have there.

Nice quiet deep tone.
