AHS 1,439 #1 Posted February 2, 2020 Ok, first..when did they start making the 314-8? They started making them late, like 93? It runs fine, has a crack in the exhaust, (which I can repair) and stock axles? 1 1/8” 8 pinion. It has a 48” deck, which is rusted out... I’m not sure if I can repair it! I’m gonna try! Is it worth $300 bucks?
AHS 1,439 #2 Posted February 2, 2020 Or even $250- 275... I’m gonna try to lower him a bit!!👍
pfrederi 17,663 #3 Posted February 2, 2020 made in 1985 then again 1993-2000
Darb1964 1,042 #4 Posted February 2, 2020 A good running 314-8 is well worth three hundred dollars, don't insult the current owner low balling. Feel him out, saving twenty five dollars not worth missing out on a nice tractor. 4

Ed Kennell 38,021 #6 Posted February 2, 2020 If it runs and drives in all gears, It is worth $300. Check the spindles in the deck. If the bearings are good, they are worth $50 each.
ebinmaine 67,266 #7 Posted February 2, 2020 What they ^^^^^ said. Unless it's a crust bucket... It's worth that all day everyday.

Most of the tractors are outside during the winter, uncovered; getting the snow and ice and rain all over them! 1
AHS 1,439 #9 Posted February 3, 2020 I got it! Um.. its a 414-8! It has 8” front wheels. It needs a muffler, choke cable, and gas cap. The motor runs like a kohler.. it starts right up, runs sweet! And the 48” deck, I mean, those are the only holes in it.. a couple welded on plates! I need to know what year it is... there is no vin plate on the back... I think it’s an 88 or an 89??
AHS 1,439 #10 Posted February 3, 2020 That mufflers fine! Mint!👍. the deck not too bad, couple patches and a belt. 1
ebinmaine 67,266 #11 Posted February 3, 2020 Nice find! What you've got there is a fantastic worker. Not sure I see the problem with the muffler. So it's a little... Extra ventilated... Perhaps time to transition to a stack?

There is a 312-8 about 4 miles from me, that’s sat outside uncovered for 3-4 years... it’s not for sale. So, what did I do? I stopped by the place with the WH and asked how much they wanted for it... and the house owner said “it’s not sale!” It’s still there!
dcrage 627 #17 Posted February 4, 2020 Yes 37” SD requires 6” front wheels to get unrestricted turning. For what it is worth my 37” deck has been a beast for its 30 years of use. It also is the only WH deck designed for ‘bagging’ WITHOUT power assistance.

AHS 1,439 #19 Posted February 5, 2020 Wow! Mines weathered a little bit, used and abused... however I’m still surprised by the motor, it starts up beautiful. Long live the Kohler!💪 @The Tool Crib

peter lena 8,580 #23 Posted February 5, 2020 good pick up on that, i would do a thorough BASELINE SERVICE on it, take nothing for granted , and verify all functions. probably a shift boot ,along with a fluid change in the rear end. that deck is not safe to use , you can probably pick up a much better and safer one , from this site or locally. get some sea foam in the tank and flush out the crud. do a couple of hot oil changes to flush out the milky residue , a regular, with the wrong weight oil never totally heating up , 5-30 oil in winter ,does well, 30 wt rest of year. good luck with it , its worth saving , pete
