Transmission mount improvements over the years...

Recommended Posts

Pullstart

I noticed that this 502 and the Commando 800 frames had different transmission mounting plates.  @hcminis DJ you mentioned the plate you had cut for the 1045 that was waiting to be welded in.  Does the plate get placed over the stamped ribs, or do they need to be pounded flat, or was that plate meant for flat mounting plates like my 502?

Note one frame is currently upside down... but a perfect place for a photo op!

Several different ways of reinforcing the area nowadays.

@pullstart Kevin what are you doing to help on your big long tractor.

On Colossus I'll be using a brace or two and also a VERY heavy duty set of parallel bars as basically a secondary frame. It will run from the mid hitch point, bolt to the axle, to behind the rear tires.

The hitch will be at the end of that.

Im sure some have used a full plate overthe newer transmission plate. I used two 1/4" x 1 1/2 " steel flat ground to between the ridges. Then braced back up to the frame.

I guess in a way, I wasn’t looking for bracing suggestions, as much as the back full sized plate that DJ recently cut for his 1045.... in relation to sandwiching the big air gap stamped into the original plate?  I believe he mentioned that his plate was cut from a Wheel Horse service advisory.... or whatever they were called.

Contemplated just using 1/2 or 3/8” plate and bracing from there.

Should be fine with that.

That'll take care of any weak spots around the bolt holes.

A part of the concern I've seen pics of is the area right at the corner.

The angle braces would help that.

I was just showing a different way to renforce the transmission mount.  Others have used a heavy angle on each side bolted to the transmission and the side of the mount.

I put the 1/4" x 11/2" strips on my 520 haven't installed the braces as yet .  The flats could also be welded inplace, mine are just bolted.

With your abilitys if it's realy busted up just cut it out and build a heaver one.

Didn't notice any cracks when I rebuilt the C-121 Black Horse, or my C-125. But I now think I'll be taking a look sooner than later.

None of mine were cracked either. I did it to my modified 312-8 first  then did it to the other ones.  Can't see to weld anymore I need them as bullet proof as posible.

My frame does not have the stamped ribs.  So the plate slid right down in and will be welded to the sides as well as top and bottom.  I can laser cut more if needed.  OR, could make the 2 separate pieces to go above and below the stamped ribs.  Could even post a file/picture with dimensions if needed.

If you could put up your dimensions please, I should be able to cut a plate out.  I was thinking too, maybe hacking the back off and building a 953/1054(/GT14?) style thick plate and calling it good.

Here is the drawing.  Let me know if you need anything else.
