c-series don 8,663 #1 Posted January 27, 2020 Maybe this has been discussed before, but other than the height of the shoot what is the difference between a tall shoot and a standard shoot blower that makes the tall shoot so much more desirable? I have a two stage that I love so I just was curious about the single stage?
Ed Kennell 38,021 #4 Posted January 27, 2020 (edited) I believe the tall chute maintains a tighter column of snow at a higher velocity therefore being able to throw it further. This is due to the tall chute having a longer straight section before the deflector. Most tall chute owners also add a front section to create a full pipe section to keep a tighter pattern. Like a shotgun, a long barrel with a tight choke throws lead farther then a short open bore barrel. Of course the gear drive vs cable drive chute angle is a no brainer. Pollack Pete 2,273 #6 Posted January 27, 2020 I had a tall chute blower on a 416-H.I really was not impressed with the performance.Only thing,it DID look impressive as hell compared to a short chute.I couldn't see any difference in snow throwing distance.Just my opinion.
troutbum70 857 #7 Posted January 27, 2020 I have been amazed at how far my 32 inch short shut blower throws the snow and that's on my little 8 hp commando 800, our last couple snows were way to wet and heavy for blowing. Had to use my farmall cub and drag the blade backwards so as to not tare up the wet soil.

Exactly why I replaced my tall chute with the 54" blade. I used a short chute on a C-120 and on a 520 for about 15 years and it did a great job. Then went to the tall chute on a 520 for about 5 years. Without having both side by side in the same snow, it is not possible to make an exact comparison, but I always felt the tall chute threw a tighter column of snow. Again, the geared rotator on the tall chute is a big plus.
troutbum70 857 #9 Posted January 27, 2020 I would fer sure agree the big 44 inch/tall would out do the single stage/short chute in wet and heavier snow, with plenty of horse power to drive it.
c-series don 8,663 #10 Posted February 1, 2020 The impeller is the key in wet snow. When the moisture content is just right the two stage can throw snow damn near as high as the phone wires. The first time I used it in those conditions I think I felt a little movement in my pants because I was so happy!! 1

Even though (no pics) my tall single would nearly as well in the right conditions. Edited February 1, 2020 by WVHillbilly520H
c-series don 8,663 #12 Posted February 2, 2020 Here’s one from a few years ago. Haven’t needed it yet this year at all!
