Muscle Cars & Hot rods

@PeacemakerJack spotted a goat in the background of some tractor pics I posted earlier and mentioned this thread. I own a classic car/hotrod shop and can fill this thread with some cool pics if theres interest. If you want to see it, we probably worked on or built it and have pics to post.

Stuck in the office doing books right now so snuck over to post a pic of that GTO that Peacemaker requested, will post some more later.

This one is a customers 66, he built the entire car 20+ years ago, and we installed an overdrive automatic in it, replaced body bushings and some other minor details. Original 389 under the hood, now 408ci roller with Kauffman heads and EFI. Tons of suspension and steering upgrades, shes a corner carver more than anything. Hope you enjoy!

PS- The name of my shop is Midnite Auto LLC, we have a 'not too often updated' website and are all over the interwebs and social media, mainly facebook. Tons of pics there!:handgestures-thumbup:

Ok, one more for now. Since you folks like the no frills, old school mechanical stuff like our beloved Horses, this is my parts chaser- 35 Chevy master coupe, factory suicide doors.

Hopped up 250ci inline 6 with a ton of head work making about 300hp, Muncie 4 speed, 88 corvette front end, chevelle 10 bolt and coilovers out back. Low 9s at 78mph in the 1/8 mile:handgestures-thumbup:

I've heard the buzzin dozen referring to

Some kind of an old truck engine. Baby a v12 Detroit? I can't quite remember.

Like I said in the past, my favorite configuration of engine is six in a row. 292 or Ford 300. Either way. I love that name. Buz'n half dozen.

Hey @Greentored how ‘bout you send that inline 6 up to MI for safe keeping... I promise I won’t drive it more than 7/16 mile in any given direction!

Those are some sweet looking machines. Thanks @Greentored for posting a better picture of that 66.  My dad’s first car was a 1966 Tempest. He wanted a Goat but insurance wouldn’t cover him as it was early 1970. So he opted for the 326/3spd which didn’t stay that way for long.  Since the external size of the block was the same across the Pontiac displacement, dad upgraded to a built 400 with a 4spd not long after purchase.  I’ll have to dig in the archives and post a couple pics of that car.  It was a sweet looking machine and fueled my passion as a kid for musclecars.  By the time I was born, it was a Ford LTD station woodie wagon (which today is kinda cool—not then!) and I was left to dream.  Thankfully those dreams became a reality when I purchased my ‘69 GTO in 1998.  6 years later I drove my dad down to Texas where we brought back a huge project ‘67 GTO.  It took us two years to restore it but we have very much cruisin and showing our Goats together!  Soon my son will get the opportunity to drive mine (the car that I brought him home from the hospital after he was born 16 years ago) that will be a special moment I’m sure.

Please feel free to “pad” this thread with lots of cool vehicles—I’m deprived because our show season will be cut short this year.  Let the car shows live on through this thread!!!😁

I gotta take some time and read through this thread- lotta great stories and bad ass machines! I’ll throw a couple up here from time to time👍

Heres the one that they will bury me in- my 66 Cutlass- "big orange".  Bought it in 1992 when I was 17 and spent 4 years redoing it, showing, cruising, and a ton of drag and street racing back in the day. Not one thing has changed except tires, some decals, and the engine. Originally powered by a healthy 396 Chevy (yeah yeah, I know) with a shot of happy gas, now a aluminum headed, pump gas 496 Chevy stroker that was built 100% in house when I had the speed shop. Slicks in the trunk  on Friday, Mid 10s@128 in the quarter, pick up groceries and an ice cream cone on Saturday. Approaching 40,000 miles now. This pic was from about 4 years ago- a big show/drag race event 100 miles away. Drove there with the slicks, sleeping bag, and cooler in the back, and slept in the back seat all weekend. She never missed a beat!

This is my first car I have owned since I was 15. Owned it for 32 years now. Recently had 340 built with x heads, exhaust and fully manual automatic to match motor. It goes real good but cannot keep up with what I am calling my mid life crisis car...

2008 Z06 LS7 505hp 6 speed standard with only 18,600 miles. This car is bone stock and bad to the bone performance!!

@stevebo now that’s funny! Here’s the old man’s 08 ZO6, sitting here dirty with 12k on the clock.

And Yes you’re right, you’d better know what you’re doing if you smash the go pedal on one of those monsters! 100 comes up in a hurry and they don’t quit, do they? Haha

PS- Im a big GM fan (especially Buick 455s) but the Mopar 340s are still by far the most impressive smallblock of anything from that era, bar none!

Here’s another: 70 RS/SS camaro This was built from the ground up at my shop, in for its 10,000 mile checkup. Aside from body/paint and interior, this one was my baby to build. Full Detroit suspension and 4 link, huge brakes with hydro boost, rollcage, LS3/6 speed stick, far too much to list. Runs and drives like a brand new car.

@Greentored keep ‘em coming! You have assembled and built some awesome machines.  Seeing your Olds made me think of my buddies car.  He bought this one in the late 1980’s and started to hot rod it to his taste.  It has a wicked Olds 455 (transplant of course) in it with a tunnel ram setup.

I remember the first time I saw that car, I was at our local speed shop picking up some parts for my ‘69 mustang.  He noticed I was gawking at his car and so when he pulled out on to the street it was time to put on a show. The go pedal was mashed and that car rolled up the street in a cloud of purple haze—oh the glorious smell of burnt rubber was everywhere for several minutes!

I had a whole new respect for his car after that!  Interestingly, I have been to 100’s of car shows through the years and rarely do I ever see an early model cutlass.

this one will get a stock 305 out of my wife’s S10 per the sanctioned rules... if we ever get to race.  It’s been about 8 or 9 years since she’s been in a car.

they ran a class at some local tracks with cars that appeared to be similar but smaller ... mini mods ? ... mod lites? ... something like that ...? ...  had big motorcycle engines ... maybe around 900-1000 cc ? ... those things could fly !

I was chev small and big block guy primarily - but agree about the 340's ... saw a number of very strong 340's back in the day

and didn't take much - very strong with cam change and headers ... with stock Carter carb

back in the day - fastest cars in my area were two early Camaros (67/68) with factory LS7 crate motors installed

I believe the cost of the LS7 crate (long block ?) was somewhere around $3 - 6K - a lot of money back then - but nothing close performance wise (factory spec) at the time

one also had nitrous oxide installed

I believe both guys still have those cars

yeah, Those are mini sprints I think..  they zoom alright!  These are leaf spring and run either a small displacement V8 or pretty unlimited I6.  This class is called VROA Modifieds.  You take a vintage car body from the cowl up and build a race car out of it.  Fun way to preserve vintage racing and use what most car builders would call a lost cause.

Love that bodystyle, man that’s a nice one, and olds power too! He didn’t cheat like me haha.

I had 2 grand saved up in high school, passed on a 68 RS/SS camaro, ready to go minus engine and trans, and bought the olds instead because I’d never seen one around. Fast forward almost 30 years that camaro would’ve been a helluva investment eh?

:text-yeahthat:  if I really want to “torture” myself, I dig out a couple of local auto buyer magazines from the late 1980’s (long before Craigslist or FB Marketplace) and I look at all the deals I could’ve bought back in the day.  Like a 1969 Judge in #2 condition for $8000 or a fully restored one for $15000! How about a numbers matching ‘68 Mustang GT fastback with 50,000 original miles complete with Manual tranny and 390 for $7500!  The list could go on and on.  I’m just glad you hung on to that ‘66 all these years.

I have a friend who asked asked me about a decade ago how much I would sell my ‘69 GTO for...I looked at him plainly and said that I wouldn’t. He said but what if someone offered you $200K.  I replied, “Uncle Sam prints more greenbacks every day, you can’t duplicate the memories that I have with my family and friends in this car!”  He stared at me blankly for awhile before responding.  I totally understand the many stories of guys that couldn’t keep their original cars for one reason or another but having that opportunity is really cool!

I love how you said that you slept in yours...I have never done that with mine.  Maybe I should sometime😁
