Denis L Goulet 17 #1 Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) hi can someone tell me the chain routing on a 1996 44 inch, 2stage,79361 snow thrower, from pictures I cant see if chain goes around tension block or not. or does the block lean on chain to take the slack. WHX?? 48,791 #2 Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) The tensioner rides up against the chain. Not much of a pic but the best I have. @WVHillbilly520H prolly gonna ream my butt again for running a dry chain! Edited January 12, 2020 by WHX24
Ed Kennell 38,027 #3 Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) Jeff isn't here Jim, so I'll do it. Edited January 12, 2020 by Ed Kennell
Denis L Goulet 17 #4 Posted January 12, 2020 wow, that's the best picture I have seen of the tension block yet, mine is pretty much worn out compared to yours, so I guess I will order a new one from parts tree, thanks for the great picture (PS the chain area in mine was so full of (****) grease I could not see the tension block at first glance.) wallfish 16,985 #5 Posted January 12, 2020 Hmmm, when I first got mine, think I remember the tensioner being the other way and it was on the outside of the chain. It's been a long while and that wood block tensioner was quickly changed to an idler sprocket. Is the inside of the chain loop the correct way it should be? pfrederi 17,672 #6 Posted January 12, 2020 OK as owner of only single stage WH blowers I have to ask...Did they really plan on a piece of wood for a chain tensioner...like how long would that last....for a machine that was expensive??
WHX?? 48,791 #7 Posted January 12, 2020 That's the way it was when I took it apart but that don't mean it's right 'Fish.. I don't think the bracket would allow it to go the other way?? Ther was a thread on how to go to a idler sprocket awhile back Denis. Yeah that's what I said Paul when we were talking about going to an idler. Never knew ther was a wood shoe. Denis L Goulet 17 #8 Posted January 12, 2020 ok ,I have a doubt again is the chain on the inside around the block or on the outside just putting tension on the chain. I have to be certain the new nylon block is 100$,i don't want to mess it up.

Denis L Goulet 17 #10 Posted January 12, 2020 I realize that now,but its to late the block as been ordered,i hope someone could clear that up for me so its installed properly.
wallfish 16,985 #11 Posted January 13, 2020 The illustration for the IPL shows the flat side of the block like it is in Jim's pic above, so I would say it goes inside the chain loop
