The Tuul Crib 7,336 #1 Posted January 10, 2020 (edited) Seems our elected officials here have nothing better to do is to come up with stupid ideas . Just went in affect this week if they catch you with your car or truck idling for more than three minutes they will issue you a citation for doing so. I just hope theres not one for too much seat time! Edited January 10, 2020 by The Tool Crib 2

The state even has it's splashy catchphrase for the law "Idling is Fuelish". Yup, that is actually their marketing for the law...You just can't make this stuff up. Not as bad as South Dakota's "Meth, We're on it". But still just plain bad. 1 3
WHNJ701 4,165 #4 Posted January 10, 2020 almost all states have this law, it's mostly not enforced unless it's a commercial vehicle parked in front of something or some kid in diesel truck etc...
SylvanLakeWH 25,492 #5 Posted January 10, 2020 Hhhmmm...So Maybe file a class action lawsuit against TDOT next time you are stuck in a traffic jam for more than 3 minutes... needing of course, to idle in violation of the new law... seeking damages using the following equation: S x T x U x P x I = D Where S = number of vehicles in jam T = length of time stuck in jam U = number of people in cars P = hourly wages lost I = pain and suffering D = Class Damage total Of course, after attorney’s fees and court costs, your initial multimillion dollar settlement will equal about $37.25, so just pay the ticket and put a better muffler on your car...

Achto 27,505 #11 Posted January 11, 2020 I knew that some states had this law for commercial trucks. Which is why some drivers have installed generators on their trucks to keep the cab comfortable while they are sleeping. Cause it's better to run a generator that it is to run the truck engine . I was not aware that states were trying to implement this on passenger vehicles. Soon this won't be an issue though. Our Jeep shuts the engine off after it has been at an idle for a very short period of time, like while you are waiting for a traffic light. Then it starts again as soon as you step on the gas pedal so that you can move with traffic.
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #12 Posted January 11, 2020 That has to make that starter wear out alot sooner. Stop and go traffic just think how many times that has to happen. That was another 🤪 great idea by someone !
Pnptractr 35 #13 Posted January 11, 2020 “Idle”.....lacking use or current function.....so turn on the radio, heater, ac or charge your hands free communication device rendering auto engine useful and actively engaged in functional work....not idle.....I think that might be interesting to test in the courts.... 1
