Very cool! I knew that other auto manufacturers like Ford and Lamborghini made tractors, but I was unaware of GM's attempt. I wonder if Chrysler or other manufacturers tried as well? I'll have to do some research.

 

I think the splash lube 216 would've lasted longer than you'd think. They lasted in trucks for an adequate amount of time. Our GT's run for hundreds, if not thousands of hours with splash lubrication. Plowing and other tractor-type work generally occurs on relatively flat ground, so oil starvation should't cause an issue. 

If they'd come out with the full pressure 235 a bit sooner it would've been a good candidate. Though as Mike said, a 292 would've been a beast.

The weather Tech Factory store Has a Porsche Tractor Porsche Made Tractors from the 1950s thru the early 1960's. There actually not that rare

Yep, read about that one in FarmShow magazine a few years back. Never have been much of a GM guy, but I will agree if they could have built one with a 292 in it it would have been a nearly unstoppable machine. Had a 292 in an old 1980 C30 with a 4 speed behind it, didn't get in any hurry going anywhere, but she'd pull just about anything I could hook behind her
