oilwell1415 563 #153 Posted January 25, 2020 I think you may have mentioned this in the video, but I couldn’t hear it very well on my phone with the background noise I’m in. If you moved the hood forward you would gain a ton of seat space without having to add to the wheel base and adding a little tractor in front of the front wheels will help the proportions since you’ve go tractor sticking out behind the rear wheels. For width, have you considered narrowing the bed? Then you wouldn’t have to move the tires out so far to set it between them. I’m seriously considering taking a foot out of the middle of the little trailer I got, but that’s just so it will be easier to get in the back yard.

I moved the hood forward after the video was taken and gained quite a bit of room. At this point, I don’t think I need to stretch the frame any more, just figure out where the hood needs to be in relation to a bench seat. I am pretty stuck on not hacking the bed for the time being. We’ll see how it works out...
SylvanLakeWH 25,535 #155 Posted January 25, 2020 I think multiple seating would be a plus given your intended uses and family size... Just a thought but why not 3 WH seats side by side on a beam going across? Outside two Act as fenders and take up the width of the bed...when you are alone or with others driver just uses the middle seat... FYI - I just used standard door hinges on The WHrat WHrecker seat and it works perfectly...easy up easy down... Just my ...

With those tall tires on the front I think the one inch spindles are a must. Everything is fine rolling straight ahead, but when you turn sharp the forces a tall tire and wheel will exert are far greater than a smaller 8". Perhaps a "D" front axle or even a custom made set of "A Arms".
Lee1977 6,656 #157 Posted January 25, 2020 You don't need trailer hubs. If you have some rear hubs with bad key ways, bore them and press in some ball bearing. I'm sure there are a lot of bad hub around.

I'm sure there are a lot of bad hub around. I thought about that last night, however the 15” wheels up front have different size inner and outer bearings that fit a VW beetle spindle. I have a set of spindles from my buggy that happened to be a little bent so I won’t mind cutting them apart to build new tractor spindles. 1
Lee1977 6,656 #159 Posted January 25, 2020 I wouldn't think a beetle had very large spindles there isn't muvh weight up front. You only need to bore deap enought each side for the bearing and what ever clearance needed in the center.
Pullstart 62,834 #160 Posted January 25, 2020 I realize I’m reaching very far into this build right now. I have this drive idea in my mind. I still want to have an automatic disconnect (centrifugal clutch) between the engine and transmission while not in motion. If I build a special foot pedal motion control, I’d like to have the engine run at idle. Push the pedal, it hits the throttle and the transmission motion control at the same time. Off to the races we go. I just don’t want one of my girls to be used to getting on and off their gear jamming tractor when in neutral, only to hop off this and it starts creeping away.
wallfish 16,994 #161 Posted January 26, 2020 I'm interested. Do you already have a plan or just an idea in your mind? Reverse could be tricky
Pullstart 62,834 #162 Posted January 26, 2020 I am going to attempt a set of wheel adapters tonight. Scrap wood is cheaper and more abundant than 1/2” thick steel plate. I’ll start with the wood.

oilwell1415 563 #164 Posted January 26, 2020 Maybe I put too much value on my time, but why not just spend $50 on ready made wheel adapters?

I worked in the OEM wheel industry for 40 years. This is easy peasy stuff. Hope it helps. I built my jig out of wood for finding wheel centers! Pullstart 62,834 #171 Posted January 26, 2020 I kept plunging the cutter and rotating the table, until I was able to peel the center out last night. Unfortunately the pattern is a bit large on the wheel side, it it’s spot on for the hub. I’ll keep playing around to figure out what needs to be done, then cut another piece. The 1/2” plate I have ended up not being wide enough to use so I resorted to 3/8” plate.
Pullstart 62,834 #172 Posted January 26, 2020 It must have been cross eyes and confusion last night, the adapter fit the hub and wheel just dandy!
Pullstart 62,834 #173 Posted January 26, 2020 I smoothed the burrs on the hub clearance hole, chucked it up in the lathe and scribed a line around the outside of the piece. Then I cut the big corners off so I can still drill, but it’s closer to being ready to turn down to a circle. I’ll start the second piece in the mill, then set up for drilling, counter sinking, tapping and finish work on both pieces. 2

Tractorhead 9,064 #175 Posted January 26, 2020 (edited) Have you verified you markings with a circle ? as far as i see on the pics, it is just one mark de-centered. But anyhow, good job 👍 Edited January 26, 2020 by Tractorhead
