Tractorhead 9,064 #101 Posted April 10, 2020 Hey Dell, for the second instrument hole, maybe a Voltmeter will be a senseful Unit. So you will be simply able to see ahead, if the Battery Voltage is good enough to fireup. To check the Voltage if the Charging system at all works and how it performs, even the Battery loads with less current. Especially if you plan to use electric Accessories like Lights or lifters later on. In my opinion A Voltage gauges is here more helpful.
dells68 7,498 #102 Posted April 11, 2020 (edited) Becca wanted to clean out part of the basement and the easiest way to carry stuff out is through the garage, so I busted my hump to get Big Red to the point that I could roll him out and try the first startup. I’m tickled so far. On another note, the trans temp gauge is apparently shot, so I’ll have to source another gauge and sender. It’s supposed to have 16x8.50-8 on it, but I got a killer deal on these out of season at Tractor Supply a year or so ago. Got them for half price - $32 each. Figured I’d be hard pressed to find a set for that price by the time I had them shipped here. Im not an Onan guy, but I do like this one. I may have to clean the carb out again though. I have to have it setting a little rich to idle up smoothly and run good at high speed. When you idle it down, she lopes around like a Harley where the fuel is about 1/2 turn high. I figure it’s always better to have one running a little rich rather than lean. I let it sit in the driveway to run a little while and cake in the house. Becca said that thing sure is loud, I can hear it in here with the door closed! That’s with two mufflers on it!! By the way, check out that slick seat I got from @BOB ELLISON! It is perfect! Really gives it that brand new look! Edited April 11, 2020 by dells68 3

dells68 7,498 #113 Posted April 15, 2020 I finally got a chanc me to pull the ole girl out and install the decals I got from @Vinylguy. They were the perfect touch to make it look like new! The only issue with the finish on the tractor is that it had sat outside for apparently an extended time and the sheet metal has some surface pitting from rust. I cleaned it down really well, but decided not to try to fill all the pits, as I would have had to skim all services with Bondo. I think it looks honest in its current form - not trying to hide anything. Gonna take it for my Dad to see today. He’s been more excited about this one than any of my other builds! 12
