Haulin Help / Roadtrip / Crash and Burn...

Recommended Posts

Docwheelhorse

Good Morning All,

Im sitting here in PA having a coffee and collecting thoughts.

Day was planned / started off as roadtrip with my black lab Cole to Howard PA to get the Diesel GT1100 back to Nick who originally built it.

Then I was dropping down to Mike in Barboursville VA for a very late model OHV 314-8 that my friend Lou wanted.

I was staying overnight and heading home through PA with a stop at Cabelas in Hamburg and then onto home.

But....some idiot in a Dodge pickup ran square into my ass and took off. I got nothing for info as it was 5:45 am and pouring rain / foggy.

C.S.P trooper says it happens all the time...

Im gonna keep going but am pissed off... need a bed, bumper and tailgate now.

Tony

Not sure what runs through peoples minds that do this kind of thing. They probably don't have a mind because they're Poppin pills are doing some other kind of things!
Sorry to hear about that it's never a good day for anyone for this. Looks like you got your good friend there though!

Yeah, it happens a lot more than it should.

Years ago some guy ran into my dad's parked van while he was at work. Local cops caught the guy, but he was uninsured, homeless, no driver's license, no money, in a vehicle he either stole or borrowed, and he wasn't on the insurance for it, so that vehicle's insurance said they weren't paying.

The only good thing about it for us was there was still a loan on the van so we had an uninsured/underinsured rider on our policy, but our rates went up and we had to pay the deductible.

Good to hear you weren't hurt, except for your nerves.

The person that hit you will get there justice in the end, when they reach the pearly gates.

Sounds like a great tractor day ahead of it and you've got a good shotgun companion along.

Well there is a good side here, with maybe the exception of your license plate lights your tail lights are intact.  It really stinks when they get smashed out.  Cole seems unfazed.

So sorry to hear this bad start to what would have been a great day.         Now I'm nervous, we are leaving in a few minutes for our annual Christmas party in West Virginia.

Sounds like the fog is worse to the south.      Safe travels.

As Del Griffith (John Candy) said in the movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, after they had been sideswiped by two tractor-trailers, "Oh, that'll buff right out".

Nope... youll love this... it was on 84 in Southbury. Pouring rain, foggy, cars and Tractor trailers surrounding me... im doing 68 trying to keep truck straight etc... it was 5:45 am. I see headlights coming up fast.... i do the awwww crap manuver and put the gas pedal on the board. Well 195 hp v6 just didnt get it done. He plowed strIght into me, I moved over to stop and that was the last of the Dodge pickup I saw. He left his whole nose all over place. But front plate nowhere to be found.

I live right off those exits and there is a reason I take back roads to work every day even when 84 would be easier. With short curved on/off ramps trucks flying, and no one paying attention it gets rough around there sometimes.

First stop completed, Nick's got the diesel back and Tyler was running around on the Lawn Ranger that Nick built and gave him for his B-Day. Now for some fuel for me and truck and onto Virginia

Well.... I made it to the 314... while loading it I noticed that bed hit cab in crash. Not good... all this from a differential hit of maybe 25--30 mph.

Onto the hotel... a couple brews and some chow. Im over it already... whats the sense. Just have to fix it and chalk up to another looser.

There is no excuse for those kind of people. Karma  will get them one day. Any businesses or witnesses that might have video or may have seen it happen? Was this trip purely to pick up other peoples' tractors?

I think your calendar might be off; we're a little past Christmas!

Well as I expected... its totaled. Estimates are in the $5500--$6500 range and Travelers insurance said if I pull trigger they will pay but I will too +35% on rates for 3 years. So basically they give you a "payment plan" on claims.

Guess I loose... gonna rip bumper off and get a decent tailgate and drive it...

Eff me, eff the guy and eff car insurance

I got hit like that, truck bed dented the cab. Lady in a Jeep, I was stopped. At least I got her info. Offered to fix it on her dime, was willing to take $1200. She said no and the bill was over 4k. She disputed the claim

I feel your pain. I had that happen many years ago. The insurance company paid, I got it fixed, and then found another insurance company that actually was cheaper and better in the long run.

Dash cams are important. Even a cheap one can save you from insurance scammers, hit and runs, and everything.

No fun Tony.  Sorry to hear their crappy customer service option!  We recently changed insurance.  I was with the same company since I was 12 and had my first Kawasaki 550 Jet Ski.  After my flood while we were at the big show, we started shopping.  We halted the shopping because “life” and recently on 11/11 (make a wish) we walked in to a local company, told them why we weren’t happy with our current service and signed on with them for thousands of dollars’ savings per year!

On another note, I accidentally backed into a lady’s Jeep at gymnastics last spring with my plow truck bumper.  Because of my previous insurer’s good grace, I paid for the damage out of pocket and the body shop helped me out on the bill being a cash customer and gave her a loaner for free too... something they normally charge the insurance companies for.
