troutbum70 857 #1 Posted December 30, 2019 So as of a couple days ago I finally got a DMR radio on the air, between learning the whole dmr business and learning to get a hot spot running it has been quite a learning curve for me. I know there are a couple other hams here on the square. Has anyone else been involved in DMR or any of the other digital modes? Was thinking if there were enough it would be cool to have a wheel horse talkgroup.

stevasaurus 22,710 #3 Posted December 30, 2019 did you have to learn Morse Code??
troutbum70 857 #4 Posted December 30, 2019 WHX24 DMR is digital mobile radio, which without a fixed repeater requires sending and receiving the transmissions over the internet. Its actually pretty cool to talk to someone else any where in the world on a portable handheld radio. I know you say I can do that on a cell phone, which is true. Just on a handheld/HT radio is much cooler hi hi.
troutbum70 857 #5 Posted December 30, 2019 Stevasurus there is no morse code requirements any longer, just a pretty long written test. And the size of the test is dictated by the level of license one is attempting to acheive.

Tractorhead 9,064 #8 Posted December 30, 2019 I ain‘t using much digital transmissions in the past, i preferr old School Radios. In the past i did sometimes APRS, but that was far before the internet was involved into HAM Radio. I have an older Kenwood Station TS760 2m/70cm still on the Desk and few older Yaesu mobiles. The right Yaesu was my Hunting Receiver, because it has a very good receiver inside. My activity was mostly on 2m and 70cm Bands just sometimes in Shortwave, but after divorce, i must sold my TS440 and the bigger Antenna because of losing some room. My Activity‘s are allmost Transmitter hunting in the Past. built several Direction finders, what brings me a lot of Knowledge about. like this one. this are 2 DF Systems, the left one is from an US buddy, we did a try together, the right one is my own development. but both still in sleep, but works if reactivated. i just missin* my Antennas ( double j Poles) from the DF Platform, they was prototypes, but they working so impressive, that i want to improve and put them aside.... 😎 But i honestly forgot where ... 🤔

Can be used for - hum let me thinkin.. maybe as counterweight.. - ok, just Fun😂 My Job has the need for Testing things ahead, that is also my desire, to deliver things they be Bullet proof. I was responsible as Leader for Electronics in our Company and i like to do some possible Failtests ahead with it. i like to know what could be happen on witch circumstances. Before i implement newer things i checked them even with some stronger electronic Stresstests, because i wanna see our Customer just come back with a smile in their Faces for buying new or for addons not for repair Fails. The electronics we get from our Partners are still increasing more and more Data Bus based, even if i didn‘t see any need for. Before this happens, there was still a knob to switch things on and off, but now all gets more complicating. Now it was handled by some „computers“ and controllers they handle things and shall interacting together, sometimes it seems sensefully sometimes ain’t. To find quick a fail, it is recomanded, to know how things work if they working as expected, to have the knowledge about. Additionally i search way‘s to solve things with a Bypass to run things in emergency, even their Electronicparts will Fail. So i also spent a lot of time, to Test things before they will maybe have a Fail.
troutbum70 857 #11 Posted December 31, 2019 Okay I assumed you had a useful need for the analyzer and the needed knowledge to make the best use out of it, of which I would not know how to fire it up hi hi.
