I think it mounts at the back of the frame rails and the dash tower closing up the gap infront of the shifter lever but the mounting holes have me confused. WHX?? 48,767 #63 Posted January 6, 2020 (edited) Sure looks like the filler panel that goes in the tunnel. It sets on the bottom with the 90 facing forward and up. Only one set of holes are used. I don't see it on the ipl either but goes right below the upper filler panel #10. The 90 is in front of the hood stand & should be holes in the frame for two 5/16 bolts. Sorry Ben don't have a pic. BenHolcomb 332 #67 Posted January 9, 2020 Appreciate your help! Not much progress lately. A bunch of small parts in the mail clutch spring, axle pin, new tie rods and lift cable from Lowell and lots of misc. items to paint. I noticed on the other gentleman's mechanical resto 856 he seems to have added the flanged bearing #6472 to the tie-rod side of the lower steering shaft. My old shaft was heavily worn in this location so that seems like a logical upgrade when the new one goes on. I recall the axle having quite a bit of for and aft slop as well, but I plan to shim that gap shut since the frame is already painted and I don't have access to a press. Creature comfort wise....for my upcoming birthday my dad gifted me a kerosene heater..busted knuckles wont hurt quite as bad while wrenching. BenHolcomb 332 #70 Posted April 16, 2020 Afternoon fellas, figured I'd give a bit of an update. Progress has been slow on the 856 as I've been waiting for the last running gear and steering tower pieces to be painted it didn't make sense to assemble any further. The machine shop completed the k181 refresh boring ten over, cutting the valve seats, installing a new valve guide, and hot tanking. This was followed by media blasting in preparation for paint. A local mechanic reassembled the block to 90% I've just got to bolt the external stuff on, carb, pulse pump, tins etc. Again that doesn't really make sense to do until it's painted as they're all in the way of a thorough respray. If anyone is interested in the price for these type of services after tax. Machine shop~ $160 Engine reassembly~ $170 (2hrs labor) Other costs were NOS EBay finds or vendors here. Yes this will be getting weekly use when it's finished, and hopefully will chug along another 50+ years. My juvenile goal is to show up the neighbors..
