70 Raider 12 8 speed

Ok, Raider 12, it’s got the brake/clutch all in one pedal. The clutch part of the pedal operates this pulley. Now the belt guide on this pulley is supposed be at 12:00 with the belt on.. it’s not. Now the belt is new, it’s the same belt length as before. The weld looks factory, so that way it hasn’t been re welded. What’s your guess. The belt guide is bent up, that was me, cause it was hitting the belt.

That bracket should be at a little more of a 90° band on that idler pulley

Same length belt as before, but was the belt you had on it before correct? Did you order your new belt for that tractor or just match it up to what you had?

Raider 12 OEM belt is 7473.  It is 82" x 0.656.  With these older tractors having proprietary design, after-market belts don't precisely match the geometry specs.   Often too wide, too thick...thin.. or otherwise just not quite right, resulting in less than optimum performance.

I've seen that before.

We've had one go through here that had been twisted by a PO (or even the builder??) As seen below.

It's possible that it was a mistake and they didn't want to take the time to grind off and reattach.

Get yo' self a big ole crescent wrench and give it a twist or two until it doesn't touch the belt at rest.

I agree with Dave on this one.

I've had good experiences with O. E. belts and Gates Green, Stens blue.

Tried a couple others that just didn't set quite right.

 

Different lengths and widths will change the location of the pulley at it's resting state.

Looks like the flat piece has a hole in it.

Grind off the weld and add a nut behind the flat piece if there is room.

Then you could tighten the nut to hold the flat piece where ever you want it.

You may be able to capture the flat piece between the pulley and the lever. I know at least one of mine is like this and always thought it was original.

I ordered it to match, it is not the original. I bent the top of the belt guard. I will get another belt. Thank you for the part number for the belt!!👍

@ebinmaine I bent the piece that you had the line thru! I will try a new belt, if that one doesn’t fit right then I will get out the grinder!👍

I just looked at the pics again. I noticed that the lever that the pulley rides on may be to far forward when in the relaxed position.

This would cause the tab guide to hit the belt sooner.

 

 

A belt that is a little longer (correct) would help that stand up a bit more.

Ya the tab hits the belt, that’s why I bent it up.  I will get the correct one!👍

Yup, I noticed that this belt, I had to use a little bit more curse words to get it on there!
