Dirtpoor 131 #1 Posted December 23, 2019 I have a 1973 10hp. That I’m going to just clean and repair only what needs done. Pretty excited about both. And those that know dclarke is helping me. 11
The Tuul Crib 7,338 #2 Posted December 23, 2019 I'll bet this one cleans up real well. I'm doing a similar thing on my charger 10 and all I'm doing is sanding it down with 320 grit and plenty of WD-40. Before you spray clear make sure the surface is extremely clean. Marty, from what I've seen this tractor doesn't look like it needs a whole lot to get it back in good shape and you've already got a few problems taken care of. Hopefully you can get the blade back on pretty quick and get this thing ready for the next snow.

Dirtpoor 131 #11 Posted December 24, 2019 Had a good start this morning than it went to crap really fast. But if it was easy everyone would do it lol changing the battery cable was the only thing that went good. For some reason the alignment is way off. And the key in the rear hub is not where it should be 😬 2

Dirtpoor 131 #13 Posted December 26, 2019 Today dclarke helped me drop the transaxle to replace the bad axle and hub. The axle dclarke had for me was 1 1/8” mine is only an 1” so I’m looking for an axle and hub. The gear box was full of oil and water and had one needle bearing was bad.

I'm not sure what I've got home in the shop but I can take a look for you. Can you give me the length of the axle you need? Also, roll pin or c-clip?

ebinmaine 68,887 #16 Posted December 26, 2019 Not looking like I'm going to be able to help you out after all. Looks like the spare axles I have that are any good are all larger than that. What is it that is wrong with your axle and hub?

I think he's gonna see if he can find them and if not we may have to weld up the keyway on the axle and have a new one cut into it. Also might have to cut a new keyway into the hub and reuse it.

The hub moved on the shaft enlarging the key way on the shaft and hub. declarke had a spare hub may have to have the shaft repaired. I need to order a seal and bearing kit so if I don’t find one by the time it gets here I’ll have the damaged one repaired Edited December 26, 2019 by Dirtpoor

peter lena 8,877 #20 Posted December 28, 2019 regularly retain older patina paint, i use 600 to 100 grit paper with penetrating oil for minimal paint loss, while the oil feeds the paint. then its just a regular oil rub down to keep the horse looking good , pete
tom2p 2,394 #21 Posted December 28, 2019 for these types of applications most times I will use scotchbrite pads (instead of sandpaper) apply WD-40 or penetrating oil or whatever to the surface - and / or soak the scotchbrite pad with the lubricant
Dirtpoor 131 #22 Posted December 28, 2019 I took the bad axle to a friend of mine who is a machinist on the side. He’s going to cut a new key way. Also ordered a seal and bearing kit from wheel horse parts and more. And that is where I’m at with the Raider. B80 is on some what on hold right now.
