Mickwhitt 4,592 #1 Posted December 23, 2019 A friend asked me if I could make his young son a sonic screwdriver for christmas. It's a gadget from our favourite sci-fi show Doctor Who. There have been many different Doctors and they all had their own version of this tool. I chose to copy the 4th Doctors screwdriver as it's mainly lathe work. I used some scrap titanium I had laying round. Bit of brass and some nifty spaced radial drilling and it looks good to me. To buy an official copy £350, to make mine ... an enjoyable day at the lathe. 2 6
Pullstart 62,795 #2 Posted December 27, 2019 I missed this Mick, I was busy either getting an IV drip or sleeping off the exhaustion! Well done... coming from someone who knows nothing of Doctor Who!
Jennifer 1,877 #3 Posted December 27, 2019 I have heard of Dr Who, but what I want to compliment on is your lathe work! Great job! Why to be there for a child’s dream gift!!
PeacemakerJack 10,738 #4 Posted December 27, 2019 EXCELLENT work Mic! Nothing quite like using your skill set and tools to make a kids dream come true. I only wish that I could’ve seen his face when he opened it. Me thinks that it is a fairly hefty device by the looks of it. Well done sir.
