wheelwhores 107 #1 Posted December 21, 2019 I just bought a c175...has a 54" plow. I can't get the plow to hit the ground...hovers about a half in off ground. Hydro lift is all the way down with slack in the chain....seems like is hung up on something in back where it mounts to the axel.

pfrederi 17,672 #6 Posted December 21, 2019 Look like you are using a short frame plow on a long frame tractor. 54" plow what was it from??? C175 used 42 or 48" .
wheelwhores 107 #7 Posted December 21, 2019 Not sure, can with the package of stuff....guy was a collector so he had a bunch of other WHs...and mod that can be done to address it? I t has enough flex I can Puch it to the ground easily... But weight of plow alone won't keep it grounded.
wheelwhores 107 #10 Posted December 21, 2019 Here is the plow and serial number
oliver2-44 9,696 #11 Posted December 21, 2019 To modify it to fit you need to extend the frame with some rectangular tubing to the length of a long plow frame
wallfish 16,985 #12 Posted December 21, 2019 That frame appears long enough. Pretty sure they made a long A frame plow frame. If it will index to both side angles without hitting the front tires it's long enough. Maybe some pics around the lift areas will help figure out why it's hanging up. Is it binding up here at the axle bracket?
ol550 830 #13 Posted December 21, 2019 Possibly the A frame hitting the inside of the rear axle bracket where John's arrow point is?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #14 Posted December 21, 2019 The blade is a 1964 model BD-543 originally produced for the 953, 1054 and 1054A tractors. Click on the picture Garry
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #15 Posted December 21, 2019 Looks like the plow bracket is on wrong or Possibly backwards.Heres what it should look like.

Notice how his bracket assembly is mounted on the front of the axle housing. This design has the A-frame inside the axle brackets. Your bracket assembly is mounted on the bottom of the axle housing and the A-frame is on the outside. Garry
wheelwhores 107 #17 Posted December 22, 2019 Garry. Are you saying that his mounting configuration is the way mine should be configured?

It's the same axle bracket but a short A frame plow, though it should still be the same setup. Yours does look kind of tight there and it shouldn't be tight enough to bind. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #21 Posted December 22, 2019 8 hours ago, wheelwhores said: Garry. Are you saying that his mounting configuration is the way mine should be configured? The axle brackets for the early dozers is what you have mounted ahead of the rear axle. The A-frame is an A-shape at the back end. When they went to a dozer that would fit both long and short frame tractors the front of the A-frame is the same but the rear is like the bottom half of an H - the sides are parallel. These require a rear hitch mounted to the bottom of the axle. The C-175 is a 1980-1984 long frame tractor. Here is a list of the blades in the order they were produced. The 1963-1965 BD-543 you have is not included in the list because at the time they had not yet produced a long frame tractor. When they did it turns out the blade you have does fit a long frame tractor due to the simplicity of the design. The 54" blades were only recommended for the 16hp and up models from 1973 on but the rest of the kit was the same. wallfish 16,985 #22 Posted December 22, 2019 Hmm, everything you have there looks right to me so not sure why it's binding but can't tell from your pic because of the angle how much space there is between the frame and the bracket. This pic is with the blade down and it will float down quite a bit farther without binding. Notice the space between the frame and bracket. 1) Disconnect the lift linkage and test up and down movement by hand lifting and lowering the blade. Just be careful not to bounce all that leveraged weight because that's a lot of stress on the cast axle tube if it is binding there. Two people is best so you can look for the places it's binding while the frame is moving. 2) Drop the frame down out of the axle bracket and inspect all of the metal edges on the back of the frame and the bracket for the places it could be binding. Post some pics 3) Grind or cut about 1/8" - 1/4" off the back of the A frame behind the round bar. It will not effect the strength of the frame
wallfish 16,985 #23 Posted December 22, 2019 Something looks funny with that round bar too but maybe it's just the shadow from the pic. That bar should be a continuous dimension all the way through it's entire length but this looks like it is not. Is something changed there?
Lee1977 6,647 #24 Posted December 22, 2019 (edited) 13 hours ago, wheelwhores said: Garry. Are you saying that his mounting configuration is the way mine should be configured? You have an older snow blade bracket it is mounted the right way. The later bracket mounted under the axle as in post # 16 by qwest. Your plow frame is hitting the space bar on the bracket. The later style plow frame also mount out side of the bracket so there isn't binding. Edited December 22, 2019 by Lee1977
