WHX?? 49,486 #26 Posted January 3, 2020 There never was a hood stop but many tractors that come thru my shop have had some kind of chain half-@ssed rigged up. Heck on one tractor a PO even used fishing line! Its really not a bad idea you do it right and doesn't hang up when the hood is closed. I always thought a retractable thing like you can get for Harley tour pak lids. Looks like the paint came out real nice and the love the old style decals! I kinda like the unmasked hood thing...looks like the eyes got poked out tho! Buddy of ours @PeacemakerJack went the other way and did an all black hood with the headlight bezels red .. bloodshot eyes! 1 1
Lee1977 6,871 #27 Posted January 3, 2020 (edited) There is a 1/4" hole in the front Tack-A-Matic for a 1/4" rod that will stop the hood. My 1989 520-H I added the 1/4" rod it wasn't there. My 312-8 had one but I had to replace the hinge rod. Edited January 3, 2020 by Lee1977
Greentored 3,217 #28 Posted January 6, 2020 Lee, you hit the nail on the head! Went and looked, sure enough that 1/4" rod is missing. Easy fix, thanks!!!
Greentored 3,217 #29 Posted January 9, 2020 (edited) More progress pics. Installed a 1/4" rod to stop the hood (thanks Lee!), whipped up some exhaust shield brackets and clamped them to the muffler since the studs were snapped off. Not sure how thick the muffler material is to attempt welding new studs on. Cant wait to put this baby to work! Cant wait to put this baby to work! hey - how did you and what did you use to clamp the brackets to the muffler ? braze or spot weld could damage or go through metal ? guess they don't have adhesives for this type of application that perform like the adhesives often used to attach doors skins and quarters ? Greentored 3,217 #31 Posted January 10, 2020 Tom, Not sure how thick the material is on the muffler, did not attempt welding new studs to it. I used some 1/8" x 3/4" flat stock, drilled and tapped the holes, ran short bolts in from the back side, stepped the flat stock so it would sit flush, and used a pair of 4" stainless hose clamps to secure the flat stock to the muffler.
