Horse Play 393 #1 Posted December 15, 2019 I am getting ready to assemble my RJ gas tank and sediment bowl along with the brass fittings. Should I use a thread sealant on the NPT fittings? Thank you!

JoeM 7,871 #3 Posted December 16, 2019 (edited) This stuff works pretty good, Rector Seal #5 available at Lowe's $6 ish. If you get some Knead the tube before opening to keep it mixed, sometime there is a slight separation. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,032 #4 Posted December 16, 2019 Apply the sealer to the male threads only. That way none of it ends up in the system. Garry

I don't keep much fuel in them and keep them dry in the winter
953 nut 55,065 #8 Posted December 17, 2019 Ultra Copper is the ony sealer I have ever used on fuel lines, others may work as well.

If they do, it's typically only a small drip, and I've used Teflon tape on tractors and cars with no issues. I had a drip at the inlet of the sediment bowl on my dad's 57 Chevy when I put the 350 in it. I put Teflon on the threads to stop it. 8 years and about 10,000 miles later, still no drip. Just make sure you wrap the tape in the right direction! Edited December 17, 2019 by ZXT 1

rmaynard 15,427 #12 Posted December 21, 2019 I know I'm a little late to the party here, but if your fittings are the type with the rubber ring in them, you shouldn't need any sealant on the threads since the rubber is the seal, not the threads. If they leak, replace the rubber seal. As far as Teflon tape or Teflon paste, anything other than the yellow is not safe for fuel. Petroleum will dissolve it.

Use the yellow Teflon tape made for gas and you will be fine. I use it all the time. You can even get it at Lowe's or Home Depot
