Bigtrx34 321 #1 Posted December 15, 2019 Just got back in town. Had a buddy at work telling me that one of his family members had a 520 that they wanted to get out of their barn, I'm game I said! What I did not know was all the attachments he had that needed to go as well. I was very lucky to drive away with a 900hr 520, 60in deck that is very clean, tiller, and blade (small frame) as well as a bag full of filters fir the low low price of $200. Cant wait to get started on it 7
wallfish 17,112 #2 Posted December 15, 2019 You sure did that guy a big favor by getting that out his barn for $200! One man's trash is another man's treasure. REAL Nice score! 3

Lee1977 6,870 #5 Posted December 15, 2019 Are you sure you weren't waring a mask carring a gun and made an deal he couldn't refuse.
Bigtrx34 321 #6 Posted December 15, 2019 Guys I honestly tried to give him more, I showed him the value of the ones sold recently. Told him I would value the tractor alone at 1400. Very nice guy who hooked me up for sure!! Funny thing is my buddy who I work with that put me in contact with the man with the 520, has a neighbor who has a c160 in his garage that he wants to part with. I'm working out of a 24x24 garage and I have a 12x12 shed so only one project at a time for me. I will be back for that c for sure 5

Bigtrx34 321 #12 Posted December 17, 2019 Started the teardown last night, its a little more complex than my 312 but so far it is going good. Struggled the most with the motion lever roll pins and the dang dash tower bolts. Should have the Onan on the floor tonight then start sandblasting the frame and sheet metal ( need to make a run to harbor freight for media)
WHX?? 49,486 #13 Posted December 17, 2019 (edited) Wow almost like the 520 Dan and I got for $1.00! No weights or chains or comfy cab tho I woulda had to pass.... Can see you ain't afraid to rip into a tractor. Our kinda guy! Just don't have left over parts when yer done! What was wrong with it you have to take it down that far? Pay extra attention to frame cracks ...they say those 60 inchers are heavy!! In case I haven't done so Edited December 17, 2019 by WHX24

I enjoy making them look new again. You are right about the 60!!! My frame is ok but I would put that thing north or 200lbs all day, took it off the trailer hon solo.... Not my brightest move. I cut with my 312 so that deck will never be put on the 520 again. The 520 will be a snow cow from now on.

Bigtrx34 321 #16 Posted December 17, 2019 Remove the Eaton or work around it? I defer to you guys. What I'm asking is it easier to do a rolling frame resto or frame and transaxle separately?
moe1965 749 #17 Posted December 18, 2019 Nice score. I think you should cut his grass and plow his driveway for two years for free. It will let you sleep at night better.😅😄😃😂😀
Bigtrx34 321 #18 Posted December 21, 2019 (edited) Ok so my frame is all the way down, rear end still has wheels and tires. Parts are on the shelf ready to come back off to go in the blast cab. Only bad thing about doing this stuff in the winter is well THE WINTER! It gets to cold to paint in my garage booth, but I have an idea to turn my shed into a both as I have a wood stove in it already. If not parts will wait till spring for paint. Pic are of how she is tonight. Edited December 21, 2019 by Bigtrx34
WHX?? 49,486 #19 Posted December 22, 2019 Yeah I hear ya about the winter thing. Not only paint is inability to pressure wash & clean up outside. Would be nice to clean up greasy tranny halves out side instead of cleaning out a messed up parts washer!

Then for the really nasty stuff I take it into work and use the hot bath systems we have.
