520H 44" 2-stage snowblower chute control rod?

Recommended Posts

Hey there, I got my snowblower attachment all hooked up and working on my new project 520H. Problem is that I didn't notice when I bought it that it's missing the control rod for the chute. Anyone have one of these that I could buy from them or know where I could find one? A part number would help me look around online too. Already tried the classifieds and I couldn't find anything.

You can make one out of a 4ft length x 3/8 steel rod, a small piece of pipe and 2 cotter pins

Or go electric with a 12v dc motor. I used a power window motor for mine and made a bracket to mount it to. It's covered with a piece of membrane roof material just to keep ice out. That's a piece of 1/2" copper pipe to link the 2 shafts.

Oh awesome! I was hoping someone had made something up like that before. Does the pipe need to be just slightly larger than the rod and worm gear end to be able to flex? I wonder if I could use a u-joint instead. I have a welder so I could fab something up without the limitations of only using hardware.

That's pretty cool. I did actually think if trying to rig up something like that. Is there any certain kind of window motor or other electric motor that you would recommend?

Most window motors rotate a gear around a pin but you'll need to rotate a shaft. Can't remember exactly what mine came from but it did need some minor modifications. Here's one you can use but it might be a little fast at 100 rpm. You can search around the net to find more. Use a 2 position momentary switch. The chute is also controlled with a small actuator and a 2 position momentary switch.

A short section of rubber hose 3/8" or 1/2" (air compressor hose)  with worm drive clamps is all you need for the "U-joint" where the 2 hairpins are closest together... https://www.partstree.com/models/79360-toro-42-snow-thrower-for-300-series-garden-tractors-sn-039000001-039999999-1993/control-chute-assembly-1/... Toro is quite proud of the chute crank rod and yes this one fits both the single tall chute and the 2stage.
