The Tuul Crib 7,337 #1 Posted December 14, 2019 Taking apart my other charger today and trying to get this shift control out to pull things apart to clean it. The pin that goes through it will not come out I'm just assuming that it is rusted up. Or is there some special technique. I have not messed with any hydros yet so I don't want to mess it up . I have sprayed the dickens out of it with PB blaster and bolt buster . Nothing yet!
Herder 2,354 #2 Posted December 15, 2019 OOOO boy, I change the hydro control on C160 and should have done a thread on it. I don't really remember how I did it but man it was a pain. I had to remove the good one from a parts tractor and installed it into the my C160. I took hrs, and a lot of referring back to a diagram in order to get it done. Was this a working unit that your restoring? If so you may want to leave it in place and work around it. They are just as big of a pain to reinstall. Just sayin!! The second one is a little more a royal PITA! I did notice there is a keyway in this shaft as well. It is very small. I am determined to get this apart so that I can clean the interial parts an grease what needs to be greased!
daveoman1966 3,762 #4 Posted December 15, 2019 (edited) You have to remove the little WOODRUFF key (item # 3) before the shaft will come out thru the side of the hoodstand. It is inside the friction cone # 7. Edited December 15, 2019 by daveoman1966 3

The friction cone and sleeve control your ground speed, lubing them will cause a lack of friction and your tractor will speedup and jerk around while in motion and this will cause you to get pissed off. 2
daveoman1966 3,762 #6 Posted December 15, 2019 Don't lube anything... That defeats the concept of 'friction control'.
