wheelwhores 107 #1 Posted December 12, 2019 Apologies if this has been discussed to death already. Looking for a good tow behind lawn sweeper...anyone have a model or brand they love? I will be mostly picking up leaves, grass clippings and acorns
lynnmor 7,302 #2 Posted December 12, 2019 I have the 50" AllFit brand from Home Depot, it is made by Ohio Steel and is exactly the same for less money. It certainly isn't heavy duty, but I beat it up pretty bad and Ohio Steel has sent me new parts for free or low cost. I like it because of the spiral brushes that keep a more steady load on the wheels rather than jerking and slipping like straight brushes. I think whatever you buy, view it as a disposable item that will need replaced at some time. It does a good job on grass and leaves, but I doubt that it would do well on acorns. rayshorses 102 #3 Posted December 12, 2019 I use an Agri-Fab 44" from tractor supply .The 44" model is heavy duty . I think i paid around $350 for it. It does a good job on leaves and clippings and i like it . AS lynnmor stated , i dont think any lawn sweeper will do well on acorns because you would have to set the brushes so low that it would stop the wheels and brush from turning. The only thing that ever picked up acorns was my old 1984 Snapper walk behind hi-vac mower with the rake attachment in front.
Yossarian 208 #4 Posted December 13, 2019 Just my $0.02, the cheapest one you can find on craigslist or facebook marketplace etc. that still has all it's parts. Play with the height and ground speed to see what works best. We got one when we bought our place because my wife wanted to put grass clippings on the garden. It works alright but it's slow and time consuming for any sort of acreage. I would guess that the size of your acorns would make a difference in how effective a lawn sweeper can be. wheelwhores 107 #5 Posted December 13, 2019 i have an older cub cadet lawn vac that i may try and convert to a tow-behind cart. it actually works really well for acorns, but it works best when run backwards. The only real catch is the carb on that machine is so damn finicky i end up having to pull it and clean it after damn near every use...even after a fuel system cleaning and inline fuel filter. cschannuth 3,816 #6 Posted December 13, 2019 I have an Agri fab and it works well. I even use it to pick up my dirt pellets after I aerate. It actually picks them up really well. In fact, so well that it gets heavy very quickly so I would think it would do well with the much lighter Acorn as well.
Burnerman 758 #7 Posted December 14, 2019 my old agrifab will pick up walnuts in the backyard as long as I don’t run over them with the tires. I cut the lawn pretty short though too.
