RedH 5 #1 Posted December 7, 2019 I purchased a 0642ST snow thrower and I can't locate the instructions for the direction cable. All the instructions I have found show 2 holes through the crank rod. Mine only has 1 hole drilled through the hollow shaft. Can anyone help me with this?
rjg854 11,350 #2 Posted December 7, 2019 @RedH Go to our manuals section and you should be able to find a manual that may answer your questions.

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #5 Posted December 8, 2019 We do not have the 06-42ST05 operator manual. This is the previous model but the spool on the crank did not change. The cable goes through the spool once. Garry
peter lena 8,583 #6 Posted December 8, 2019 REDH, found this ,that might help , lots of pictures and info, another thing that helped me out ,was that i used grass trimmer line to practice run the function and improving dragging areas. i also replaced the cable clamps on the chute , which are terrible , with electrical lugs ,https://www.mayerelectric.com/17119/Category/Mechanical-Lugs, brand is not important , but TYPE OF LUG IS , i simply drilled out the pop rivet on the chute holding the cable , and bolted on 2 new wire lugs for a solid easy mount point. lubrication is vital on all movement points of a blower , ESPECIALLY THE AUGER DRIVE CHAIN AREA, as you improve things , lubricate as you go to enhance your gain . any other questions , just ask , pete
peter lena 8,583 #7 Posted December 8, 2019 not to confuse you , but i also added this chute control ball end , to make this work easier / smoother , there was literally no problem area or stiff movement point , that i did not change for the better , the blower works and runs with total ease, pete
RedH 5 #8 Posted December 9, 2019 Hello All, Thanks for the help and the manual download it is very much appreciated. I wrapped the cable as stated in the manual and the chute would go further right but not left. It kept binding and it would loosen the cable in the rivet brackets. I pulled the chute off and look it over but it looked good on the underside. The top of the chute lip had a spot of rust and I cleaned that off. I put the chute back on and played with the tension on the bolts and got it turning better but It still seems a bit tight. Do you normally have to play with the tension to get the chuts moving properly? Also there is an L-shaped arm that is welded to the thrower body and it looks like the cable should go around it. The manual doesn't clearly show that arm and the cable. Can anyone help me with that?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #10 Posted December 9, 2019 Left and right are always from the operator's position in the seat. The cable that goes to the right side of the chute goes around that L-shaped arm. Then the cable is lined up to wrap on the spool. The cable needs to be slightly loose so it does not pull the chute to the side. That way the side not being pulled is slightly loose when the other is tight. A bit of lubrication on the cable helps it slip on the L-bracket. Garry
RedH 5 #11 Posted December 30, 2019 Thanks again for everyone's help the photos were a great help. I got the snow thrower installed and I got the chute working nicely. Now I have one more question.. I see that there was a top frame extension plate that was offered for this snow thrower. Does it help and does any one know the dimensions of the plate?
