8ntruck 7,210 #3 Posted December 7, 2019 I grew up in Lansing. I vividly remember shoveling after the big '67 snow storm. That one canceled school for a week, if I remember correctly. I'll bet that Whalen's sales were still pretty strong in 1969.

N875ED 98 #23 Posted December 10, 2019 I checked the U.S. Treasury's Consumer Price Index on the web and it says the cost of living is now a little over 6 times what it was in 1974; so according to that arithmetic, the $1,480 mowing package shown above would cost about $8,900 in today's dollars. Hard to believe. You can see why Wheel Horse went out of business...very few people would pay that much for one of these hi-end, quality tractors today. 1

People don't want to invest in a quality piece of equipment that will stand the test of time. Over the period of four decades they will throw away over a grand each on foreign made big box junk riding mowers ten or more times while we continue to enjoy our . Guess we just aren't doing our part to support the Chinese Economy.
WHX?? 49,554 #25 Posted December 10, 2019 So true felllas... me thinks it's our duty to combat our throwaway society and get youngins involved. I fear that might be like trying to get folks to get involved in a local VFW.
