Ai need more Wheelhorses!

Recommended Posts

lynnmor

I have a shop and buy most of my steel from Speedy Metals, MetalsDepot or McMaster-Carr, depending on price or delivery.  Usually McMaster can get it to me in one day.  Local suppliers will deliver to me, but often are higher priced and delivery is variable.

The sprockets I linked to are exactly the same, produced by Aetna, if you look close and remove some paint you will see that is who supplied Wheel Horse.  I think that they might be no longer made, so grab them while you can, just be sure of the hole size.

@ebinmaine I tried out the snowblower... WOW!! Snow 20’ high.. unbelievable! I need to take off those 3” extension plates... i need a 16 hp other than a 12 hp ohv, cause it sucks that motor down, once the blower is full!  I need some weight in the back... my 200 lbs ain’t enough!!👍

Be sure to check your governor and carb settings.

Someone else could elaborate on how to do it properly.

You want to make sure you're at correct full throttle and mixture screws are set right.

Governor needs to be adjusted correctly.

That way you are insured that you're getting all of the 12 horsepower available to you.

As to the weight in the rear end there are some options. Wheel weights of course.

Fluid filling the rear tires is very helpful.

I can't remember if you have chains?

If you have a rear trailer hitch you could add a couple hundred pounds on a platform or in a box.

Ya, I have chains. I don’t think the ohv series is as torquey ( is that a word?) as the k series. It throttles all the way up and it mows the lawn fine.  Im gonna leave it alone for the next snowstorm... see how it does. I’ve used snowblowers before, Just short shute. I just am amazed (blown away!) by the new bearings and new paint... I just can’t believe for far that snowblower the snow!

What gear(s) are you using during snow blowing? There is where a hydro shines never the wrong gear. But if it's pulling your engine down while moving snow you need to go to the next lower gear , (like 1st gear high range to 3rd gear low range) ect. JMO.

That is absolutely a word.

It has it's roots in Latin as a predecessing part of:

Cogito Ergo Zoom.

Which translates to:

I think. Therefore I go fast.

The term "torquey"  was a necessary description of the power sources of the day and hence forth caused old timey machines to go Wicked Fast.

This of course scared the snot out of the locals but they realized that they were enjoying it and even cognitiveley formulating new faster machines....

The rest of course, is history.

I may have made up some of that...

I'll second that.

You may need to just creep along sometimes.

There was no snow when I tried it, just going into icey plow banks, (that may have been a problem!) 1st in hi, which is too fast (throttle all the way up) and 2nd or 3rd in low. I’m itching (not really!) to get 8” of fresh white on the pavement so I can try it out!

That would draw down most snowblowers for sure...

I think you'll be fine with that setup.

Keep it at high RPM. Keep it in 1st high range.... Giveerrsumm!!

Yep that icy plow bank isn't for a single stage thrower but more towards the 2 stage blowers... I'm a fan of the tall chute single had one for 15 or years but it just wasn't the implement for plow banks that's why I found myself a 2stage plus my tractors are 20hp opposed twin cylinders with hydro.

Ok so you have had a single stage for 15 years.... how many time did you replace the bearings? With all this rain my lawn looks bare! @ebinmaine

we are pretty thickly forested in so we still have some snow left here and there. We've gotten a dusting four or five times and last week about 4 inches maybe...

For the record. I'm okay waiting for snow.

I personally replaced the bearings and sprockets once... Marine grease is your friend.

Tried this today and it's a no go.  The owner emailed me and said it's a special order item and he needs to order 24 and he doesn't want to stock them.

He also wants $18 to ship the 2 of them.  I ended up paying more on eBay for the part but saving on shipping and about broke even.

Wow. At Bradstreet, (the old WH dealer)  I thought $35 was expensive for a sprocket... but, of course they had them.

I had another source, but they are no longer in stock.  Apparently Aetna no longer produces them except by special order.  A large and old New Holland dealer, or some other farm equipment supply might have some old stock.  Ask for Item#: 520-103243, or the numbers on the list in the linked site.

When I rebuilt both the tall single and the deuce , I used "THE BIG BEARING STORE.com" for the bearings sprockets and chain.

The best way to ward off a snowy winter is to buy a new snowblower (or rebuild and install on your WH). Your friends and neighbors will thank you.

My 520-H is rigged and ready but not one flake yet.
