Pullstart 62,831 #76 Posted April 3, 2020 Put Stormy on a diet today. If I find I need the extra weight, I know where to find it again!
The Tuul Crib 7,336 #77 Posted April 3, 2020 I think its time to change over to some ag tires kevin ! Michigan mud seems just a little bit thick these days!
Pullstart 62,831 #78 Posted April 28, 2020 I grabbed Stormy today and scraped the “trash” off the garden. It might yet be used to mulch the plants, so the garden will still benefit from the compost.
Pullstart 62,831 #79 Posted April 28, 2020 Only two tomato cages were hurt in the scraping of the garden. I have a few extras! 1
Pullstart 62,831 #81 Posted June 7, 2021 @Wheel Horse 3D and I have been talking for quite a while about making a deal at the Big Show on this FEL. I knew something was loose and I planned to rectify it before handing it over. Tonight, I see it has been repaired before. I don’t like how the angle iron was upside down. I hacked off the broken pieces and began building new.
Wheel Horse 3D 3,791 #82 Posted June 7, 2021 Yeah, they didnt leave much meat at the top of that hole!
Pullstart 62,831 #83 Posted June 7, 2021 I chopped up a generator frame from my “spares” pile for some strong 2”x1/4” angle iron. I flattened the old bent piece for measurements and got to work.
Pullstart 62,831 #84 Posted June 7, 2021 I laid out my cuts, tacked the two pieces together and set it up in the mill vice. Now I’ll clean the pieces up and they’ll be ready to burn back together. My plan is to leave the meat of the angle ON TOP so it won’t stretch the webbing and break again.

Too late now but in my opinion the slotted mounting holes were a major contributor to the failure. You'll notice that there is no elongation of the holes in the frame but the slots are worn. Regardless of how tight the bolts were they would allow some movement and flexing. The thicker metal should be helpful but if it were mine I think I would buy four grade 8 (thick) washers and weld them to the new angle iron once it is all bolted up. 2

This mount allows for a bit of adjustment either way for different frame lengths. @Wheel Horse 3D if you have access to a welder, I’d get it fine tuned for Dug and burn it in like Richard suggested 1
