Burnerman 758 #1 Posted December 4, 2019 The snow took out a lot of power lines in remoter areas of the grids. I’ve been running the 15kw Generac whole house genset I rescued from the scrapyard. It’s been humming along and I started to think about how I’ve been depending on small engines a lot lately. 😁 My C101 has been a beast moving this heavy snow and ice and my old Simplicity 7/24 snowblower can still huck snow a long way. Ive been having a lot of fun clearing out all the old folks in the neighborhood but damn! That stack is too loud. Gotta get a quieter exhaust. I hope they all hang in there and I hope I get my utility service back soon cause making electricity is getting expensive. 😲
ebinmaine 67,277 #2 Posted December 4, 2019 I think it's fantastic that you Huck stuff. We huck stuff on a regular basis up here in Maine. I don't know how your exhaust is set up but if you can rig a late 70s early 80s Cub cadet 10 horse muffler on to that it would quiet it down some. That's the stack on my Patriot horse.
Burnerman 758 #3 Posted December 5, 2019 Yeah I have one on my shopping list Eric. I’m waiting for these plow jobs to pay off. Lol. (The old couple across the street gave me a peppermint patty. 😁) I’ve been doing it as charity work mostly for the older folks in the neighborhood and I get to play with my tractor. I’m going to have a few paying customer soon enough. I’ve got to get my other wheel weights mounted up but the chains on my old turf tires is an awesome combo for the driveways I do. 2

That's like a $4000 machine. I'd love to get my hands on one. What did you have to do to it?
Burnerman 758 #5 Posted December 5, 2019 (edited) My friend called and asked if I wanted a generator, it has a broken rod, it’s a big whole house one. I figure I could maybe salvage something from it even if it’s just the cabinet for my 7500w. Lol Story is my buddy’s neighbor had it tuned up by co, a short time later generator does run. Co comes back, valves were adjusted incorrectly and it broke a PUSHrod. Lady gets co to replace generator with new one and they left the old I guess for insurance. It sat for a year or 2 and the lady wants it gone Anyway nobody he knew wanted it cause it had a broken rod. Lol. It cost me $29 for 2 pushrods, a rocker and pivot bolt. Runs great! I did have to replace the magnetos in it but the guy that did the work for me said it’s an older model and the mags are the only think that goes bad other then the starter and that’s been replaced already. 😁 ( I didn’t fix it cause it looked impossible. My sons friend is a generator guy and I gave him a 1964 Onan/Studebacker 3000w generator to do the work. He knew the way to do it and made it look easy. 👍 I got very lucky on this find! Pullstart 62,795 #6 Posted December 5, 2019 I’ve had people flag me down and waive anything from a wrinkled $5 bill to $50 bills for a drive cleaning. The cheap ones are always the ones who act like they did me a favor. Something about snow removal being cheap in their eyes? Good on you for doing it for the right reason, sometimes I’d rather they didn’t pay me anything...

Heck of a deal! Kind of hard not to chuckle at some peoples mechanical ignorance. Did you post about the generator having a running issue here a few months ago? I seem to remember someone posting about one but don't remember the specifics.
