Shirk 14 #1 Posted December 4, 2019 (edited) I purchased this the other day for $35. My original idea was to get it for spare parts for my short chute blower I have now. After I got it home I noticed it was a lot more solid than I originally thought. I noticed there was some things right off the bat that was all cattywampus. Especially the tall chute attached to the short chute and the extension wings are on backwards pointing in instead of out. What really intrigues me is the step down from the rear of the chute to the mount for the attachment/drive pulley. I couldn't find any serial number plate and every thrower I could find on the net is like my other one that has a solid mounting point that is level with the back of the chute. To me the thrower housing seemed a tad small. I measured it and its 30 inches wide minus the extensions. My other blower is at another location currently so I cannot measure it but I think this one is smaller. Anyone see one like this before and can lend some insight into what I got? rjg854 11,350 #2 Posted December 4, 2019 Looks like someone took parts from 2 different blowers and came up with what you have now
Shirk 14 #3 Posted December 4, 2019 It is a Frankenstein right now. I will tear it apart friday when I'm off. I will also go to my relatives garage where my other blower is and compare the two side by side but I know this one is just different and I would love to know why. Still cant complain its solid and all the bearings spin free and a lot more quite than the one i currently had.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,033 #4 Posted December 4, 2019 The extension wings are installed correctly but the left end housing is bent. The wing should have more angle to it. The first wings did not have the front 2" broke so the front was straight with the tractor. These would suck you into a snowbank. Early models had the chute cable wrapped around the 1/2" crank rod. Later they added a spool to the 1/2" rod for the cable to wrap on. Early models had only one idler sprocket inside the housing for the auger. 37" models became 42" models with the extension wings. It appears to have the fixed rear bar that fits in the front quick hitch introduced in 1973. My guess is this is a 32" model with the optional wings. Look down this list organized by width. VS is vertical shaft models. LF is long frame. MF is medium frame. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/category/28-snow-blowers/?sortby=file_name&sortdirection=asc&page=2 Garry
Shirk 14 #5 Posted December 4, 2019 Thanks for the info. I realize now looking at it that the extensions are facing the correct way. I never paid attention to the wings on my other one on which way the tips pointed.

Shirk 14 #7 Posted December 4, 2019 I can tell you thos much I looked last night and it has 1 idler sprocket (however there is a slot in the housing for the second one) and no spool on the chute cable. It just raps around the rod.
