Electric Lift Trouble

Recommended Posts

snowhound

The electric lift on my 418-8 has stopped working.  I have a snowblower on the tractor that is currently in the lifted position and it won't lower.  When I try to lower it I can hear the actuator motor running and a clicking but the blower doesn't lower.  I assume that the actuator is bad and needs to be replaced.  Does anyone know of an available replacement?

It mat be frozen with Ice. I'm not completely familiar with the actuator WH used but that clicking is typically the safety inside the actuator for when the mechanical limit is reached and the actuator is still going. It protects it from damage. Try heating it up with a heat gun or hair drier. If that cures the problem you may have to cover the actuator to keep moisture from getting to it and freezing.

I don't know how much they changed over the years but the same 111273 actuator was used for many years.

I’ve always have been leery of using a blower with an electric lift especially if they are laden with snow and ice.

They work very well with all attachments except the blowers.

Oh. They work. I’m just Leary because you can hear it strain with the blower loaded down with snow and ice.
I got rid of the blower anyway and it works well on the 520-8 with a blade.

i always keep a spare on the shelf just in case.

@snowhound     What did you find with your electric lift, anything yet ? I have a 417-8 and would like to know if I ever encounter a similar problem with mine.  Thanks

The loud clicking is what mine does when has reached its travel limit. (On a sweepster)

I think I found what killed the lift.  The switch stuck in the raise position and with the tractor running I didn't hear the clicking so I'm assuming the clutch has burned out.  Does anyone know where I can get a new switch?   I haven't had time to remove the actuator yet to many projects that have to be completed first.  Luckily I have a 416-8 that is stepping in to take the 418-8s place.

Any momentary DP DT toggle switch should work as long as it is heavy duty enough to carry the amperage.

DP = double pole

DT = double throw

It will have 6 terminals

This one is too light duty

This is a good one with only 4 terminals because it includes the crossed jumpers. You can do the same to a 6-terminal switch by adding your own jumpers.

Sorry about the long delay on getting back with what I found.  The issue was self inflected.  I had been trying to get the blower to lift higher and shortened the lift chain by one link but that caused the lift arm to go to high and bind against the part of the steering setup.  To be honest I think that is what it was binding against I found it about a month ago and my memory isn't what it should be.
