Guest 88vic #3 Posted November 30, 2019 Previous owner had it mounted on a C-161. Used it for a year and decided to get a traditional type of log splitter. We talked about his Wheel Horse and gave him info about it that he didnt know. I think he appreciates his Horse a little more now. He also now knows that there is a huge following of us Wheel Horse guys. He thought that it was just another garden tractor. They are alot more than just that. Look for a new member, he may just create an account. Lets hope !
ebinmaine 67,301 #4 Posted November 30, 2019 Those screw type splitters are very popular in many parts of the world. They are only dangerous if you're not mindful of how you use them. Think of them like you would felling a tree. Be very conscious of every move. Keep all human limbs away from it and the wood. Clear a path around it. Be prepared to disengage the PTO. Keep everyone in the area away from it and out of your concentration as well. Have someone make a video in operation!!!!! 1 3
ZXT 2,401 #5 Posted December 1, 2019 I've never heard of such a thing. How do you hold the log you're splitting? Seems like the Kohler would sling whatever it's screwing into after a revolution or two!
Guest 88vic #6 Posted December 1, 2019 Ill post a picture tomorrow, I have 2 trailers to move tomorrow, I think Ill use my 314-8 to do that job and Ill hook this log splitter up to it too and turn it on. There is a bar that slides into the empty hole , that is what holds the log from spinning.
C_hasbeen 249 #7 Posted January 12, 2020 I have seen these but never you could mount to a garden tractor. Does this rotate slow or is it fast? This is cool, I will have to keep my eyes open now.

Cvans 1,009 #10 Posted January 12, 2020 I've used those on the PTO shaft of a tractor. They are nice to use and actually prefer them over the hydraulic splitters. It's my understanding that far more people have been injured using conventional splitters than the screw type. I know that thinking about getting my hand caught in that hydraulic ram gives me the creeps.
wallfish 16,985 #11 Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) I have a Stickler screw splitter (which you can still buy) and thought about adding a hydraulic motor to use it on the end of the back hoe. Another crazy idea never gotten too. Something like this but on a smaller scale. Just poke the logs on the ground instead of lifting them to the splitter Edited January 12, 2020 by wallfish 2 1
little red riding horse 223 #12 Posted January 12, 2020 Ive got one on the back of my compact , they are a great bit of kit but as said above need to be treated with respect … I usually operate mine in a t shirt without gloves... sounds crazy but you really don't want anything getting caught up in that thing... my compact has 4 speed pto so you can choose the speed and gear ratio to suit the size of stumps... they make them to fit car axles to, not sure about that though !
